Fluvanna Ferebee, a re-
cent graduate of Kings Moun-
tain Senior High School, was
presented a merit scholar-
ship certificate b, Joe
Andrews, General Manager
of Tubular Products Service
Center of Combustion
Engineering, Inc. This award
is one of several that the com-
pany gives children of it’s
20,000 employees.
Fluvanna received
numerous awards and
recognitions throughout her
high school years particular-
ly in the area of math and
science. Her most
distinguished award was hav-
ing the priviledge of
representing the State of
North Carolina at the
American Junior Academy of
Science meeting in
Philadelphia this past May.
Fluvanna is now enrolled in
Materials Engineering at
Virginia Polytechnic In-
stitute and State University
of Blacksburg, Virginia.
She is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. James C. Ferebee,
Jr. of Kings Mountain.

Carl Mayes, both of Kings
Mountain, great-aunts of the
bride-elect; Mrs. Irvin Allen,
Jr., Mrs. Lee McIntyre, both
of Kings Mountain, Mrs. Mof-
fatt Ware of Concord and
Mrs. Bryant Herndon, Jr. of
Charlotte, all cousins of the
bride-elect.
Special guests were the
bride-elect’s mother, Mrs.
Charles Mauney of Kings
Mountain; the bridegroom-
to-be’s mother, Mrs. Bill
Davis of Kings Mountain;
and Mrs. Carl Mauney of
Kings Mountain, Mrs. Jack
Wagner of Statesville, grand-
mothers of the bride-elect,
and Mrs. Ernest Davis of
Kings Mountain, grand-
nother of the bridegroom-to-

Upon arrival, the 30 guests
were served fruit punch as
they were presented to the
bride-elect by the hostesses.
Miss Mauney was presented
a lacey white corsage to wear
with her Fall party dress.
Guests were seated at U
shaped tables and places of
guests were marked with
miniature grapevine wreaths
surrounding a red wooden
heart with each guest’s name
[mprimed and arranged with
baby’s breath and red velvet
bow and ribbon presented as
favors and made by the

celebrated his first birthday
Oct. 19. ;
A party was held at his
home on Long Branch Road
Sunday afternoon.
A Pink Panther cake was
served to 13 family members
and friends attending the par-
ty.
Y te is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Tony Dale Henson, Sr.
and grandson of Mr. and Mrs.
Plato Henson and Mr. and
Mrs. Johnny Lawson, all of
Kings Mountain. His great-
grandparents are Mrs. Em-
ma Barnette of Rutherford-
ton and Mrs. Ada Lawson of
Kings Mountain.
It’s A Boy
For Elswicks
Mr. and Mrs. Timothy
Elswick announce the arrival
of their son, Thomas Kee
Elswick, October 7,
Cleveland Memorial
Hospital.
The baby weighed seven
pounds, two and one half
ounces.
~ He is the grandson of Jim-
my and Marlene Houser of
Kings Mountain and Thur-
man and Jettie Elswick of
Detroit, Michigan.

box filled with the bride’s
lucky sixpence, lace handker-
chief and a blue garter tied
with red velvet bow. The
bride-elect was also
presented the large heart-
shaped grapevine basket
which “centered the bride’s
table as a gift from the
hostesses. Smaller grapevine
pots of pink and red Kalan-
choe and ivy centered the
tables where guests found
their places and were served
a three course luncheon. Mrs.
Moffatt Ware, the former
Ann Mayes of Kings Moun-
tain, prayed the wedding
blessing and during the lun-
cheon each of the hostesses
read wedding poems to the
bride.
Miss Mauney was
presented a piece of her
great-grandmother’s silver
by her great aunt, Mrs.
George Houser and family.
The silver was used by the
late Mr. and Mrs. D.C.
Mauney, parents of Mrs.
George Houser and the bride-
elect’s father, Mrs. Carl F.
Mauney.
Out-of-town guests includ-
ed Mrs. John Morgan and
Mrs. Mark Ray, both of
Statesville, Mrs. Ronnie Ray
of Deep Gap, and Mrs. Hugh
Hayes, Jr. of Charlotte.
