VIRGIE BLACKWELL Funeral services for Mrs. Virgie Hartsoe Blackwell, 86, of Kings Mountain, who died Thursday in the Kings Moun- tain Convalescent Center, were conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. from First Wesleyan Church of which she was a member. Rev. John Harris officiated at the rites and interment was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Grover Rescue Squad or First Wesleyan Church. Mrs. Blackwell was a native of Cleveland County, daughter of the late John and Lillie Smith Hartsoe and widow of Luther L. Blackwell. She was a retired textile employee. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Margie Mon- tgomery of Grover and Mrs. Katherine Hannon of Shelby; one sister, Mrs. Myrtle Hart- soe Bomham of Indian Trail; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Harris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. MRS. ALICE GORMAN Funeral services for Mrs. Ida Alice Gorman, 87, of 225 Thrift Road, Shelby, grand- mother of Robert Dodge of Kings Mountain, were held today at 10 a.m. from St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dover, N. H., interment following in St. Mary’s New Cemetary in Dover Point. Rev. Warren J. Regan of- ficiated. Mrs. Gorman died Thurs- day in the Cleveland Memorial Hospital at Shelby. She was a native of Milton, N.H., daughter of the late Achille and Rose Brouillard Mareaux and widow of Joseph Gorman. Surviving are one son, Joseph Gorman of San Jose, Calif., three daughters, Mrs. Alice Dodge of Shelby, Mrs. Anne Haberstock of Shelby and Mrs. Doris Sidelingun of Dover, N.H., six grand- children, and five great- grandchildren. ; Purdy-McCooey Funeral Home was in charge of ar- rangements. Mr. Roberts was a native of York County, S.C., son of the late Henry and Nancy Ann Jeeter Roberts and husband of the late Hattie Manning Roberts. He was a retired constriction worker. Surviving are two foster sons, Frank Manning, of High Point, and William Manning of Kings Mountain; a foster daughter, Lucille Watkins of Kings Mountain; a brother, Rev, Mason Roberts of Gaff- ney, S.C., three sisters, Ruth Logan of Kings Mountain and Verlie Roberts and Alfredia Roberts of Philadelphia, Pa., 23 foster grandchildren and 13 foster great- grandchildren. Danny Abernathy, 33, Dies After Heart Transplant Danny Abernathy, 33, of North Augusta, S.C., grand- son of Mrs. Lillian Mitchem of Kings Mountain, died Thursday in University of Georgia Hospital. He had undergone a heart transplant in October but had returned to the hospital after about five days at home due to complications, said his grandmother. Abernathy lapsed into a coma about a week ago, his grandmother said. He was a native of North Augusta, attended Columbia College and was employed by DuPont Company of Aiken, S.C. He was a member of North Augusta Grace United Methodist Church where funeral services were con- ducted Saturday morning at 11 o’clock interment follow- ing in the church gomeary. Surviving, in addition to his grandmother, are his wife, Jan Howe Abernathy; one daughter, Whitney Aber- nathy, and one son, Frane DANNY ABERNATHY Abernathy, both of the home; and his parents, Paul and Madge Mitchem Abernathy of Augusta, GA.
