Dear Editor;
Public response to Duke Power’s Share the Warmth pro-
gram has been%emendous in the first few weeks of operation
this season. This is the second year for the program, which
provides money to assistance agencies that in turn help the
needy pay winter heating bills, regardless of the fuel used.
Since the initial mailings were sent out in customer’s bills
on November 17th, more than 6,457 contributions totalling
$64,128.26 have poured in to the fund -- an amount matched
dollar for dollar up to $25, by Duke Power’s stockholders.
Share the Warmth provides a chance for Duke’s customers
. to share the holiday spirit by helping to find an answer foran.
immediate need for many families this winter: how to meet
heating costs.
Last year, Duke stockholders matched customer contribu-
tions up to $10. This year, that upper limit has been increased
‘to $25. Duke Power stockholders are again providing mat-
ching funds of $400,000.
The funds are distributed by 70 local agencies within the 49
counties served by Duke Power in North Carolina and South
Carolina.
The immediate response by customers means the agencies
will be able to help families during the holiday season.
It is an exciting program that not only gives people a
chance to share but to care -- as Duke Power does.
Now results are coming in daily. And as we receive more
information on the amount of money to be distributed, I will
pass it along to you with updates on this story.
