/ Boiling Springs, N.C...Because they remember the struggles they had as a married couple seek- ing an . education, the Reverend and Mrs. Ed Sessom recently endowed a scholarship fund at Gardner- Webb = College. ‘‘The memories of what it was like for us triggered us to do it (establish the scholarship) for others,” said Mrs. Mafrey Sessom. The income from the Mafrey Richardson and Ed- ward H. Sessom Endowed Scholarship Fund will pro- vide financial assistance to students attending Gardner- Webb who have committed their lives to full-time Chris- tian service. The principal of the fund will be a part of the endowment of the Christian Service Organization, a sub- sidiary of the college that provides aid to students entering church-related vocations. Rev. Sessom was actively involved in the for- mation of the Organization in 1971, serving as its first in- terim president, and has served a total of seven years as its president. President Chris White, speaking on behalf of the col- lege, said, “We like the crea- tion of this type of fund. Song Fest Scheduled The Gospel Choir of Gardner-Webb College will host their Annual Black History Month, Song Fest on February 6, at 6:00 p.m. in the Dover Theatre on Cam- pus. Special guest will be the Johnson C. Smith Spiritual Choir, Children of the Sun Gospel Choir of UNC- Charlotte and the Cleveland County Mass Choir. The public is invited to at- tend and there is no admis- sion charge. For additional information contact Carolyn McKinney. Seminar Schéduled Boiling Springs - A special ‘tax information seminar dealing with tax regulations and records required of chur- ches, ministers and religious bodies will be held Tuesday, February 10, at the Kathleen Dover Theater on the campus of Gardner-Webb College. The seminar will beginat 10 a.m. and adjourn at 3 p.m. The cost of the seminar is $4.00, which includes lunch. Leaders of the seminar will be a panel of specialists from the Internal Revenue Ser- vice, the Social Security Ad- ministration, the Annuity Board of the Southern Baptist Convention, and Ernst and Whinney, Auditors. The seminar will include highlights from the Tax Reform Act of 1986.: Anyone who is interested in an update on the tax laws affecting churches and religious leaders is invited to attend the seminar. Among the topics to be covered are: housing allowances; Social Security coverage; IRA contribu- tions; tax-sheltered plans; deferred compensation agreements; charitable con- tributions; investment tax credit; expense accounts; and required reporting and forms. College Receives Grant Boiling Springs, N.C....Gardner-Webb College received a $1500 grant this week from The Sears- Roebuck Foundation. The grant is unrestricted. Gardner-Webb College is one of 38 private, accredited colleges in North Carolina, and one of 956 institutions across the country, to receive Sears Foundation funds for the 1986-87 academic year.
