Page 2B-KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Wednesday, February 25, 1987 KM Teams For the first time this year, the N.C. High School Athletic Association is using a format similar to the NCAA to decide its finalists for the state tour- naments. There will be eight Sec- tional Tournaments played around the state in each of the four classifications (1-A, 2-A, 3-A, 4-A) and the winners of all those events will qualify for the state tournament. In the 3-A division, seven boys and seven girls teams from the Southwestern 3-A Conference will qualify for Sectional Tournaments, but they will not be assigned to the same Sectional. Sectional action will begin next week. The first two rounds of the sectionals will be played at various high schools around the state. Semi-finals and finals action will be played at previously- designated schools. In Western 3-A action, those previously-designated courts are at Gardner-Webb Col- lege, and Asheville, Will Be In Sectionals Statesville and Hickory high schools. Kings Mountain’s boys, fourth place finishers in the SWC, are scheduled to play their first game at the home court of the Big Six Con- ference’s number two team. The winner of that game will advance against the winner of the game between the Foothills Conference number two and South Piedmont Con- ference number five teams. The Kings Mountain girls, fifth place finishers in the SWC, are scheduled to travel and play the number two team from the Western Athletic Conference. The win- ner of that gme will advance against the winner of the SWC’s number one and Big Six number five team. The only thing that can change either of the KM team’s present seeding would be if one of the eighth place teams from the SWC would win this week’s conference tournament at North Gaston.
