Verlee Mask, of the City Recreation Depatimen, arranged the party which included favors and red and white decorations. Clayward C. Corry,Jr. and Scott Neisler donated the prizes. Mrs. Mullinax received a red rose-shaped music box and a box of candy and Stewart received a stuffed white bear holding Valentine hearts. The best decorated table was done by Essie Jackson, Pauline Wright and Pauline Bridges. Legion Auxiliary Members Attend Spring Conference Four local members of the American Legion and Aux- iliary Unit and Post 155 at- tended the Spring Conference of the organization at Holiday Inn Four Seasons, Greensboro. State President Arlene Mrs. Falls Hosts Club Mrs. Frances Falls was hostess Thursday night to the Town and Country Garden Club. “Every Garden Needs A Lilac” was the topic of the program which was given by Mrs. Margaret McCarter of the Open Gate Garden Club of Kings Mountain. “We usually think of an old fashioned garden when we think of lilacs but there are so many varieties and the lilac is one plant that does not re- quire as much care as most plants do,” Mrs. McCarter told the club. Delicous refreshments were served. Mrs. Falls was assisted by her grand- daughter, Mrs. Becky Bumgardner, and her great- granddaughter, Beth Bumgardner. KMCC Women Meet Tuesday Kings Mountain Country Club Women’s Association will hold a business meeting Tuesday,March 3, at7 p.m. at the Country Club. President Doris Howze said that all members are invited to attend to kick off a membership drive and to make plans for the new year. PEO Meeting Set Wednesday The March meeting of Kings Mountain PEO Chapter AP will be held Wednesday, March 4, at the home of Mrs. J. N. McClure on Crescent Circle. The meeting will begin at 4 p.m. and all members are urged to attend. Arts, Craft Show Slated In Shelby The 11th annual Spring Arts and Crafts Show will be held April 11-12 at th fairgrounds in Shelby. The event is sponsored by the Cleveland County Fair in cooperation with Cleveland Technical College. } Craftsmen will be display- ing and selling their crea- tions, along with gifts and novelties of all kinds. The hours will be from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Sat., Apr. 11, and from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Sun., Apr. 12. Applications to previous exhibitors will be mailed by March 10. Barrett of Kings Mountain presided at the sessions of the Auxiliary. State Chaplain Ruth Gamble, also of Kings Mountain, led the opening and closing prayers and also assisted in the joint memorial service Sunday morning. Mrs. Gamble is Unit 155 president. Also attending the meeting were District 23 Commander Bob Davies, Mrs. Ruth Ruff, and Miss Elizabeth Stewart, the latter who is a past state president. Four members of Shelby Unit 82 attended the Saturday session, including Past Na- tional President Mary Sue Jarrett. Highlight of the Saturday session was an address by National President Evelyn Starr of Minnesota. National Commander Jimmy Dean of Mississippi was the keynote speaker for the American Legion sessions on Saturday. Governor Jim Martin ad- dressed a joint session on Saturday afternoon. While studying in Atlanta, he was employed and resided at Roy Davis Funeral Home in Austell, Ga. Graduation exercises were held at First Baptist Church in Hopeville, Ga., on February 20. A number of his family members and friends attended the graduation ceremonies. Wright was soloist for the graduation pro- gram and sang ‘The Lord’s Prayer.” NER Engagement Announced Kenneth and Joan Allen of Xenia, Ohio announce the engagement of their daughter, Debbie Lehman, of Gastonia, to Charles Canipe, son of Hugh and Hazel Canipe of Kings Mountain. The wedding will take place in June at Lake Wylie,S.C. The bride-elect is a 1976 graduate of Xenia High School and is employed as Service Advisor for Sonny Hancock Chevrolet Co. in Gastonia. The bridegroom-to-be is a 1969 graduate of Kings Moun- tain Senior High School and is employed as Quality Control Manager at Sonny Hancock Chevrolet Co. in Gastonia. Is A Girl For Mitchells Mr.and Mrs. George P. Mitchell, Jr. of Greenville,S.C. announce the arrival of their second child, a daughter, Elizabeth Virginia, Friday, Feb. 20th, Greenville Memorial Hospital. She weighed six pounds, 15 ounces. TRhe Mitchells have a son, Patterson. Grandparents are Mr.and Mrs. W.F. Stone, Jr. and Mrs. Florence Mitchell Land. Great-grandfather is Frank C. Ware of Kings Mountain.
