Bridges of Kings Mountain has been named chairman of the Kings Mountain division of Gardner-Webb College’s $5.95 million campaign, “The Future: Building on a Solid Foundaion.”’ Bridges, owner of Bridges’ Auto Parts for 30 years, said he accepted the leadership role because Gardner-Webb ‘has been good to me.”’ Both Bridges and his wife, Ada W. Bridges, as well as his two daughters, attended Gardner-Webb. In fact, Mr. and Mrs. Bridges were mar- ried during Thanksgiving vacation from G-W. A pilot, Bridges grew up ‘with flying. His father, . William Paul, Bridges, was owner of Bridges Airport in Shelby. A former flight in- structor, Bridges is a member of the Civil Air Patrol. He served six years on the Board of Education. Bridges, a former Bulldog Club member at the college, grew up knowing Gardner- Webb. “The influence of the college on the community is great,” he said. As chairman of the Kings Mountain divi- sion, Bridges and his workers hope to raise $100,000 in the Kings Mountain area. The $5.95 million cam- paign, to be launched in April, will provide funds for campus renovations, endow- ment, scholarships and facul- ty enrichment, including the establishment of an academic chair. The campaign will be coor- dinated by M. Henry Garrity, vice president for college relations. Shelby businessman Lloyd Bost serves as national campaign chairman, and Mrs. Paris L. Yelton and Charles I. Dover of Shelby are honorary chairpersons. What's For Lunch? Lunch menus for Kings Mountain District Schools. March 12 - Pig-N-Blanket or sliced ham, creamed potates, buttered green peas, pears, hot rolls. March 13 - Cheeseburger or ham and cheese sandwich, lettuce and totmato, corn on the cob, cherry cobbler. March 16 - Pizza, tossed salad, mixed vegetables, ap- plesauce. March 17 - Macaroni and cheese with ham slice, or ravioli casserole, cole slaw, fried okra, whole wheat roll, fruit cup. Gaston Memorial Gets Duke Grant Gaston Memorial Hospital has received a $31,493.00 grant from the Duke Endow- ment in recognition of the free days of care Gaston Memorial has given in the past year. The Duke Endowment is a private foundation which pro- vides grants to not-for-profit educational and health care institutions in North and South Carolina. It was established in 1924 by James Buchanan Duke and is now the largest foundation in the southeast.
