A former Kings Mountain woman, Patti S. Smith, was recently promoted to Inspec- tor II in the Community Im- provement Division for the City of Charlotte. In this capacity, she will supervise six of the 12 Inspectors who investigate public and private properties for litter code violations and abandon- ed junk vehicles. Mrs. Smith has been employed by the City of Charlotte for 15 years. She worked six years as Secretary to the Head of the Building Inspection Depart- ment. When a bid for an In- spector in the Community Improvement Division was posted, she applied and was accepted as the first female KEITH DUNCAN KM’s Duncan Named Youth Of Month Robert Keith Duncan, who ranks second in a class of 250 seniors at Kings Mountain Senior High, is Shelby Ex- change Club Youth of the Month. Duncan plans to attend Virginia Tech and major in nuclear engineering or nuclear physics. At KMSHS, he is active in a number of activities, in- cluding the National Honor Society,Science Club, Kings Revue, French Club, Key Club, Pep Club, Concert and Marching Bands, Band Coun- cil and National Beta Club. He attended the Presidential Classroom in Washington,D.C. last year. Duncan is active in First Baptist Church and Youth Council and Ensemble and has been president of the Youth Choir the past three years. He attended the Broyhill Leadership camp in 1985, the N. C. State Universi- ty Nuclear Science and Technology two week sum- mer program in 1986 and the five week summer program offered by ASU in math and science in the summer of 1986. A Kings Mountain native, Blanton is a 1970 graduate of Kings Mountain High School and attended N.C. State University and Gaston Col- lege. Blanton started his newspaper career in 1973 in the circulation department of the Gastonia Gazette. In 1975, he was named circulation director of The Chapel Hill Newspaper in Chapel Hill, KM Native Earns Promotion Inspector in this Division. Mrs. Smith is the daughter of Mrs. Juanita Steffy of Kings Mountain and the late Gene Steffy. Va., as circula- tion director of the Bluefield Daily Telegraph and held that position until his current appointment. Blanton is married to the former Susan Wilson of Kings Mountain, and is the father of one daughter, Jennifer. He is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Blanton of Kings Mountain.
