Fane R-S Centr Monty Deaton hurled a two- hitter and Del Postell had three hits to lead Kings Mountain’s Mountaineers to a 5-0 victory over R-S Central Tuesday afternoon at R-S. The Mountaineers are now 5-3 in the Southwestern 3-A Conference and 10-4 overall. They host Burns Friday night and play in the Gaston Coun- ty Tournament beginning Tuesday in Bessemer City. Deaton struck out seven and walked three in picking up his fifth straight victory Tuesday. His teammates eers Edge Monty Deaton started on the mound for the Moun- taineers and worked 6 1/3 inn- ings. Rusty Bumgardner came on in the seventh to put out the Chase fire and get the win, Kings Mountain grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Del Postell beat out an infield hit and scored on a clothesline double to right- center by sophomore third baseman Dale Greene. Chase came back in the top of the second to take a 2-1 lead ona two-run homer by Deck. The Mountaineers then built a 7-1 lead after five inn- ings before the Trojans battl- ed back to tie it. Greene, Postell and Raynard Roberts finished Hurls Fifth Win Deaton Two-Hits al 5-0 backed him with a six-hit at- tack. Kings Mountain scored three runs in the fourth inn- ing. Larry Yarborough walk- ed and stole second and scored what turned out to be the winning run on Deaton’s single. After Raynard Roberts walked and Brent Bagwell was hit by a pitched ball to load the bases, Postell drove in two runs with a single.
