Page 10A-KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Wednesday, June 3, 1987 Head Start Has Field Day The Cleveland County Head Start Program held its annual Family Field Day and Picnic on Monday, at the Shelby City Park. Head Start staff and children wore T-shirts printed with the Head Start logo courtesy of Plastic Od- dities. The shirts were pro- vided in part through dona- tions by Clevemont Mills of Kings Mountain, Cleveland Mills of Lawndale and Doran Textiles of Shelby. Activities for the morning began at 9 a.m. with the pro- gram’s 140 enrolled children involved in supervised ac- tivities including free play on the swings and climbers, cir- cular games, tug-of-war, sack hops, rope jumping, frisbee tossing and parachute play. Teachers painted faces with stars, hearts and flowers and Bill Hager, Community Schools Coordinator with Kings Mountain Schools told stories. Special guests included Hager and Robert McRae, Superintendent of Kings Mountain Schools, who is also Head Start’s Executive Director, Dr. Larry Allen, Associate Superintendent for Kings Mountain Schools, Mrs. Beth Tallent, principal of Marion School, Mayor Ar- rie Ellis of Earl, and New Industry To Employ Ng Ne wi | 100-125 At KM Plant & =r =P Initial employment in Hayward Industries propos- ed new Kings Mountain plan is estimated to be about 100-125 employees. Hayward, which produces injection molded plastic pool supplies, announced last week the purchase of a 162,000 square foot building formerly owned by Allegheny International in Kings Moun- tain Industrial Park in Gaston County. Hayward is based in Elizabeth, New Jersey and has plants in Belgium and California. The facility here will be an expansion of their operations and none of their current facilities will be clos- ed. Department of Commerce assisted in the Lutz On Dean’s List At Lenoir-Rhyne College Thad Christopher Lutz of point average out of a possi- le 4.0 while carrying a course load of at least 12 semester hours. They made Kings Mountain, was recent- ly named to the Dean’s List for the spring semester at Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory, no grade lower than a “C’". Lutz is a sophomore and is the son of Howard R. and Lutz was one of 252 students named to the honor roll. According to Lenoir- Rhyne registrar Steve M. Shuford, the students qualified for the Dean’s List by compiling a 3.4 grade Juanita Lackey Lutz. Lenior-Rhyne is a four- year liberal arts college own- ed and operated by the North Carolina Synod of the Lutheran Church in America.
