To Attend Girls State Laura Allen and Melissa Rikard of Kings Mountain are among 350 rising high "school seniors representing all 100 of the state’s counties expected to attend the 48th annual Tar Heel Girls State next week—June 7-13 at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Heading the list of speakers will be Gov. James Martin at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 12, and Lt. Gov. Robert Jordan at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 11. Both will discuss the responsibilities of their of- fices. Sponsored by the American Legion Ausiliary, Girls State this year will have the theme, “Justice for All.” Jo Jane Pitt of the UNCG Office of Continuing Education will serve as director of the week- long event. All sessions will be held in Aycock Auditorium. The local girls are spon- sored by Unit 155.
