od All Eyes Are On Christians The story is told of Branch Rickey, one of baseball’s greats, in an incident that bears repeating. It was after his: first game in Philadelphia. The team was riding in their omnibus going from the ball park to their hotel. The bus turned down Chestnut Street and there was a great crowd in front of them. Evidently there was a fight, or a fire, or an acci- dent. The curiosity got the best of the young ballplayer, and he jumped off the bus and ran ahead to see what was happening. The crowd was composed of ball fans reading the details of the afternoon’s game from a bulletin board. Army Band To Perform At KM Park From Page 3-B The band became the 30th Infantry Division Band and served with the ‘Old Hickory’’ Division in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. The band served in five cam- paigns during World War II, capturing nearly one hundred prisoners, and was awarded the Presidential Unit Cita- tion, the French Fourragere, and Belgian Fouragere. After the war it was redesignated as the 94th Ar- my Band and again stationed in Raleigh, but it was soon changed again to the 30th In- fantry Division Band. It re- mained under this designa- tion until the 30th Division was deactivated in 1973. AT that time it received the pre- sent designation, 440th Army Band, which was an active Army Band that served with distinction at Fort Bragg frm 1950 until 1970. A little girl was helping her mother work in her flower garden. Watering a beautiful plant, she cried, “Mom, I know why flowers grow.” “Why?” she asked. “Because,” she answered, “they want to get out of the dirt.” A Christian has his roots on this earth, but he has his heart set on things above. He gets his cues of behaviour from the Word, not the world. He values the Bible above books, character above con- venience, God above gold, loyalty above license, self-control above self-indulgence. The best way to live in this world is to live above it. Be like the flowers - grow to get out of the dirt. Page 8B-KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Wednesday, June 24, 1987 A hasty glance at the record showed one thing above all else; there was his name and after it a record of the kind of game he played—his hits, runs and errors all there for everyone to see. Branch Rickey testified that he never had such a sobering ex- perience before. He realized right from the start of his career that what he did, and how he did it was of the ut- most interest to thousands of baseball devotees. Christian, all eyes are on you. God sees the very core of your heart! People only see the motions of your body, and the words of your mouth. The lovers of this world, the followers of the devil have their eyes on you! Be sure you play life fairly, justly, honestly and with the utmost integrity. Be clean, loyal, and efficient in all that you do for the Kingdom of God. Their future depends on how you conduct yourself and your af- fairs. The salvation that we find in Christ Jesus is not the end of the story.... The rest of the story is our knowing that “We are as an epistle open and read of all men.” We have a great need to accept our response-abiliby...our ability to respond to the whole Word of God that calls us to a lifestyle of ‘“‘perfection’. The writer to the Hebrews says it this way: “We are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses.” 12:1. “Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is well pleas- ing in His sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever.
