TENNIS LEADERS - Senior Ashley McGinnis, left, and

Kings Mountain High’s
girls tennis team expects to
make a strong run for the
Southwestern 3-A Conference
title this season.
Coach Suzy Holtzclaw’s
ladies were scheduled to open
their season Tuesday with a
non-conference match at
Gastonia - Ashbrook. They’ll
play six non-loop bouts before
opening SWC action at home
on October 1 against Burns.
Several returning starters
from last year’s team, which
finished third in the SWC,
make this year’s club strong.
Heading the list is senior
Ashley McGinnis who was
undefeated and making a
strong bid for conference
player of the year honors
when she suffered a knee in-
jury in a match against
Shelby and had to miss that
‘match and the season’s finale
against "North Gaston. "KM
went on to loss both matches.
J.J. Warlick, who qualified
for the state tournament last
year, also returns and she
and McGinnis should form
one of the top 1-2 punches
anywhere.
“With Ashley and J.J.
returning with experience,
we’ll be in contention,” said
Holtzclaw. fe dod. is

jor League Lanes in Shelby.

have to be a good bowler to
participate,’ noted Gene
Penner, who helps organize
the league each year. ‘‘The
purpose of the league is for
people to get together for
good Christian fellowship and
un.”’
