We have just experienced a great week of reviving during the Clyde Dupin Crusade. We saw many great decisions made by people of all ages. Many gave their hearts to Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Many made recommitments to the Lord. Some couples were even reunited. The one thing I noticed as I stood by that decision tent each night was the joy that had flooded into peoples lives. The joy was there for both the decision- makers and their counselors. Religious ~ Viewpoint By CLYDE DUPIN Today I see in many per- sons lives that this joy is car- rying on for them in these days since the Crusade. You see when God begins to work in a person’s life; when there is confessing and repenting of sin going on; when people open their hearts to the Lord and allows Him to work, then God sends His Holy Spirit into our hearts to clean out sin. As sin is removed then God takes residence there through His Spirit. The result is joy. Real joy!!! People will often say, ‘I am happy most of the time.” But, there is a real difference “Celebrating Our Constitution” On September 17, we will celebrate the 200th anniversary of the signing of the United States Constitution. The Constitution is the oldest written national constitution still in force in the world today. This document is an instrument structuring a government to guarantee the God-given rights listed in the Declaration of Independence. We the people, should give praise to God for the liberties our Constitution has secured. Because America was built on Biblical principles, our na- tion has been called a Christian nation. As a Christian nation, we have a responsibility to see that all citizens of the United States enjoy the privileges that our Constitution guarantees. This Judeo-Christian ethic encompasses the dignity of human life, the traditional monogamous family, common decency, and the work ethic. God has blessed America for 211 years because of these principles. From its tiny beginning, we now have 240 million citizens; and have become the most blessed and prosperous nation in the world. Today, America stands at a crossroads. We need a new birth of freedom and a new commitment to those principles which made us great. This government of the people, by the people, for the people, must never perish from the earth. America is a beautiful land. However, there are forces of evil and liberal political trends that threaten our future. Let us pray and work to preserve this one nation under God. =f, DIXON PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OUR DOORS ARE ALWAYS OPEN SUNDAY SCHOOL 9:45 A.M. SUNDAY WORSHIP 11 A.M. Let me illustrate with a limerick. ‘‘Happiness is be- ing happy when your happen- ings happen to happen the way you happen to want your happenings to happen.”’ Then you are happy. You see, as long as things go as planned in your life you are happy, but if anything comes along that upsets the norm we get frustrated or hurt. James describes the immature per- son as one who is like a wave on the sea. Up one minute and down the next. Cir- cumstances in life dictate whether that person is up or down. God does not intend for his people to be this way, “tossed to and fro”. That is why He has given us His Holy Spirit to give us joy. “Joy is being : happy when your happenings don’t happen to happen the © way you happen to want you happenings to happen.” Joy * is not determined by the cir- cumstances of life. Your life may be up or down, but your spirit continues rejoicing. Paul wrote, ‘I am exceeding- ly joyful in all our tribulation.” Have you ever encountered a person who was going through unbelievable ex- periences in their life, yet had such a peace and joy in their attitude. Did you wonder how they did it? It is the “Joy of the Lord’! You and I can have this same joy as we allow God to search and try our hearts; as we are willing to confess and repent of sin; and as we strive each day to id Jesus to be Lord of our ife.
