Junior High To Open Season
Kings Mountain Junior
High's football team will
open defense of its Western
Association championship
Wednesday at 5 p.m. at John
Gamble Stadium against
Burns.
Coach Gary Blake’s
Patriots finished 7-0 last year
and gave up only 14 points on
the season, but this year’s
team is loaded with inex-
perienced players, including
15 seventh graders.
‘“We’re basically young
and rebuilding,” said Blake,
who has coached the Patriots
to a 12-2 mark over the past
two seasons. “We have only
five returning players and on-
ly one that started for us last
year.”
The lone returning starter
is offensive tackle Tony
Young, who’ll anchor a big
line which will include David
teams have Jronged out and
the league will be composed
of all the schools from
Cleveland and Rutherford
counties.

“I look to Shelby and East
Rutherford to be the top con-
tenders,” said Blake. “Just
how well we’ll do remains to
be seen. With as many young
players as we have, we'll just
ave to start playing and see
what happens.”’
Blake, who teaches at Cen-
