The Commission was established by the 1987 General Assembly to erect a monument to the veterans of Public Meeting Scheduled A funding proposal for a regional waste treatment plant to serve Kings Moun- tain and South Gaston County ranks No. 22 of 50 on the priority list for federal funds and Kings Mountain and Gaston County officials will hold a public meeting to answer questions on the pro- ject Tuesday at 5 p.m. The same officials will meet with state officials Dec. 3 to discuss the grant. Gaston County is the lead agency for the joint project which was suggested by Mayor John Henry Moss to replace Kings Mountain's an- tiquated sewer plants and serve a large area of Gaston County while taking advan- tage of money made available by the Water Quali- ty Act of 1987. The plant is estimated to cost between $20 and $30 million and would be located on Crowders Creek off Highway 321 in Gaston Coun- y. Gaston County must still submit a supplemental engineering report to the state, prove the plant will be built using the most cost ef- fective methods and meet state and federal en- vironmental regulations. The grant, if approved, would pay for 35 percent of the project and local and county officials have been looking at other funding sources.
