Cloninger Joins First S&L Jim Cloninger, Kings Mountain native, has joined First Federal Savings & Loan Association in Kings Moun- tain and Gastonia as in- surance sales manager. Cloninger will have office hours at the Kings Mountain. branch on West Mountain Street and the Gastonia ~ branch office on S. They are active in First Baptist Church and King Birthday Celebration Set At Community Center The public is invited to at- tend a birthday celebration for the late Martin Luther King, Jr. January 16 at 5:30 p.m. at the Kings Mountain Community Center. An array of special quests and top entertainers from neighboring towns and cities will be featured on the pro- gram. The guest speaker for the evening will be Forest Toms, a native of Shelby, and a former student of Shelby High School. He is now a psychologist and professor at Middle Tennessee State University. Toms is also in the process of completing his Ph.D. in Psychology and Education. The theme for the celebra- tion is A Dream (Yesterday, Today And Tomorrow). Harrises Announce Birth Of Daughter Marguerite Gene and Sissy Harris of Oakwood Estates Drive, Anderson, S.C., announce the arrival of their second daughter, Marguerite (Meg) Todd Harris, Wed., Dec. 30th, Anderson Memorial Hospital. The baby weighed seven pounds, seven ounces. She has a sister, Morgan, age two and one half. Grandparents are Gene and Wilma Harris of Phifer Circle in Kings Mountain and the late John and June Marguerite Todd of Kingstree, S.C. Kings Mountain Police Accepting Applications The Kings Mountain Police Department will be accepting applications for the position of Patrolman beginning January until January 22. Applications will be taken at the Police Department from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. weekdays. minimum requirements for the position of patrolman are as follows: Applicant must be U.S. Citizen Applicant must be at least 21 years of age. Applicant must not have been convicted of a felony or any Class A or B Misde- meanors. Applicant must be a high school graduate or the equivalent. Applicant must be at least 5 feet 7 inches tall for males and 5 feel 4 all for females. Weigh at least 140 pounds for males and 110 pounds for females. Applicant must posssess 20/100 uncorrected vision, corrected 20/20. Applicant must possess normal hearing determined by an audiometric hearing test. Brad Jones On UNC List Eric Bradley Jones, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Jones of Kings Mountain, has been named to the Dean’s list at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, for the fall semester. He is a junior majoring is Business Administration. Cloninger is a Mason. A graduate of Kings Moun- tain Senior High School, Clon- inger is also a graduate of Ap- palachian State University. County Begins Winter Safety Awareness Program Cleveland Conty has begun a community-wide winter safety awareness program to alert local residents to the dangers of harsh winter weather. This winter awareness - campaign is being launched in coordination with a na- tional campaign by the Federal Emergency Manage- ment Agency (FEMA), in partnership with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). + We urge you to educate yourself and the members of your household on how to get through rough winter weather. NOW THRU JANUARY 2, 1988 Cleveland County commis- sioners today signed a pro- clamation declaring January 3-9, 11988, Winter Preparedness Week in Cleveland county. The Proclamation supports the teamwork of public and private sector organizaitons working together to educate the residents of Cleveland County ‘on the perils of winter. It urges citizen par- ticipation and calls for the people of Cleveland County to take reasonable precautions to reduce injuries, illness, deaths, and property damage caused by severe winter weather. ; “The potential for human suffering and damage in this area is real.
