Page 2A-KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Wednesday, January 13, 1988 OBITURRIES RAY ROBERTS Funeral services for John Ray Roberts, 72, of Route 3, Elm Road, Blacksburg, S.C., Antioch Community cat- tleman and farmer, were conducted Sunday at 3 p.m. from Antioch Baptist Church of which he was a member. Mr. Roberts died of an ap- parent heart attack Thursday morning. A native of Cleveland Coun- ty, he was the son of the late John and Mae Falls Roberts. He was married to Mabel Et- ters Roberts who survives. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are one son, Kenneth Robert of Athens, Ga., two daughters, Mrs. Rebecca Broome of Grover and Mrs. Sandra Lindsey of Summer- ville, S.C., three sisters, Mrs. Vera Foster of Blacksburg, S.C., Mrs. Ruby Fortenberry of Shelby and Mrs. Mary Brown of Lee Center, N.Y., and four grandchildren. Rev. Vernon Craig of- ficiated at the rites and inter- ment was in Antioch cemetery. PANSY MARTIN Funeral services for Mrs. Pansy Queen Martin, 76, of Route 1, Grover, who died Thursday in the Cleveland Memorial Hospital, were con- ducted Sunday at 2 p.m. from Pleasant Hill Baptist Church of which she was a member. Rev. Eddie Grigg, and Rev. Wray Barrett, and Rev. Ned Buckner officiated and inter- ment was in Rose Hill Memorial Park. A Cleveland County native, she was the daughter of the late John Queen and Grover Justice Queen. She was a retired employee of Minette Mills in Grover. Surving are her husband, Thurman R. Martin; a son, Nixon Martin of Grover, a daughter, Norma Koon of Shelby; two brothers, J.D. and Hal Queen of Shelby; two sisters, Georgia Wright and Julia Richards of Shelby; and four grandchildren. Memorials may be made to "Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. MARY DAVIS Funeral services for Mary Hester Davis, 71, of 404 Parker St., who died Wednes- day at Prince George Hospital in Cheverly, Md., were conducted Tuesday at 3 p.m. from Bynum Chapel AME Zion Church by Rev. Stellie J. Jackson, Rev. R.L. Garvin and Rev. M.L. Camp- bell, interment following in Shiloh AME Zion Church Cemetery in Grover. A Cleveland County native, she was the wife of the late William L. Davis, Sr. and the daughter of the late David Dilson and Sally Ellis Williams. She was a member of Bymum Chapel AME Zion Church, the Zionettes, and the kitchen committee and was the chairperson of the Willing Workers Club. Suriving are two sons, William Lewis Davis, Jr. of Kings Mountain and Sgt. David H. Davis of Germany; a daughter, Celinda D. Cranke of Upper Marlboro, MD., two sisters, Ruth Can- nedy and Elizabeth McGill of Kings Mountain; seven grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. Foster's Funeral Home, Gaffney, S.C., was in charge of the arrangements. JAMES FRANKLIN %“.. Funeral services for James “Franklin, 76, of 214 W. Lee Avenue, Bessemer City, who died. Jan. 5 in Gaston Memorial Hospital, were con- ducted Thursday at 2 p.m. from Sunset Lane Baptist Church in Bessemer City, in- terment fallowing in Bessemer City Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Franklin was, a retired carpenter and World War II veteran and son of %he late John T. and Floxence Whitener Franklin. He was a native of Burke County. { Surviving are his wife, An- nie Cody Franklin; sons, Terrell and Johnny Franklin of Kings Mountain and Donald Franklin} of Bessemer City; a daughter, Jane Neal of Bessemer City; two brothers, Roy and Hardy ee Franklin of Bessemer City; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildreen. MRS. IRIS FITE Funeral services for Mrs. Iris Shaver Fite, 72, of 814 North Cleveland Avenue, who died Tuesday, will be con- ducted Thursday at 2 p.m. from Grace United Methodist Church of which she was a member. Rev. Frank Gordon will of- ficiate and interment will be in Hollywood Cemetery in Gastonia. Mrs. Fite is survived by her husband, Rufus Fite; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home. LILLIE BOYD Funeral services for Lillie Mae Boyd, 87, of Route 2, Bessemer City, who died Saturday, were conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Harris Funeral Home. Rev. Eugene Land of- ficated and interment was in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Covina Hills, Calif. A native of Georgia, Mrs. Boyd was the widow of Walter B. Boyd. Surviving are a son, Robert Cowart of Mount Holly; two brothers, Tom and Robert Barnett of Atlanta, Ga., a sister, Pauline Peterson of Atlanta, Ga., four grand- children and three great- grandchildren.
