The win boosted the Patriots’ conference record to 4-0. Coach Phil Weathers’ charges had their Monday match with West Lincoln snowed out, and today’s scheduled match with Newton-Conover will pro- bably also be re-scheduled for later in the year. The Patriots’ next scheduled match is Thurs., Jan. 21 against St. Stephens at Cen- tral School. “Crest gave us a good match the first time we met them, so we made some ad- justments in our lineup,” KM Grapplers Weathers said. ‘We moved some people around in the middle and upper weights and wrestled some different people in certain classes. We threw a different look at them because we thought they’d be well prepared for us. “Our kids gave a good ef- fort, probably the second best effort we’ve had all year,” he added. “I was very pleased with the win.” Weathers cited Marvin Bid- dix, Bo Phongsa, Andy Hollifield, Derek Williams, Gene Smith and Tony Young for their excellent effort. THE RESULTS 80 - Marvin Biddix (KM) dec. Jimmy Faller; 90 - Bo Snowed Out, Host North Gaston Thursday Kings Mountain High’s wrestlers will see action for three consecutive nights “after snow postponed two Southwestern 3-A Conference matches during the past week. The Mountaineers of Steve Moffitt, 0-1 in the SWC and 4-1 overall, will host North Gaston’s Wildcats tonight at 7 p:m. They travel to 4-A East Gaston Thursday for a non- conference match and return home Friday at 7 p.m. to bat- tle Chase in a conference meet. The North Gaston match was originally scheduled for last Thursday night and the Chase match was postponed from Monday night. Moffitt will be without the services of heavyweight Mark Crawford, who was in- jured in a sledding accident last week and will probably be out for the year. He had recently pulled out two close victories for the Moun- taineers by winning the final bout of the matches. “We'll really miss him,” said Moffitt, whose team has won five conference titles in the 1980’s. ‘That means we’ll have to forfeit in the heavyweight match, but we still have an excellent chance to grab a share of the con- ference title if someone knocks off Burns.” Burns, which fell to Kings Mountain in an early-season non-conference match, came back to edge the Moun- taineers 35-30 in the opening SWC bout. The Bulldogs host a strong R-S Central team Thursday night. AN HBO FM SIMULCAST di - Bridges, James Goins, George Allen, Floyd Smith, Dorus Bennett, Pride Ratterree, Charlie Moss and Don McGinnis. PAUL CAMERON WBTV Sports Director af How'd the rookies fare on the PGA Senior Tour? 50 year old Al Geiberger won $264,798 with three victories, and wound-up 9th on the money list. The hands-down seniors champ of '87 was Chi Chi Rodriguez—cashing-in at $509,145 —despite putting on the green at the GTE Classic in Los Angeles, only to watch the ball roll out of bounds. When 38 year old Artis Gilmore (the former Gardner-Webb Bulldog) got waived by Chicago, that left only three players in the NBA who also played for the ABA. Can you name them? (answers below) Walt Disney World recently released a poll of sports fans who visit the park. 68 percent voted in favor of a playoff system to decide the national 1-A college football championship. I'm surprised—not that a majority of those polled favored the playoff—that 32 percent of the sample must be employed by the major college bowls. Two names to remember come college football signing period nev* month—Chester “The Molester’” McGlockton from Whiteville, an Gerald Dixon of Rock Hill. Both men made the 1987 All-American High School list as compiled by super scout Max Emfinger. At 6-4 and 273 pounds, McGlockton made first team as a defensive end.
