KMHS Ladies Whip North 76-75 In Three Overtimes Cindy Gardner's 15-foot jumper with eight seconds left in the third overtime gave Kings Mountain’s varsi- ty girls a thrilling 76-75 vic- tory over North Gaston in Southwestern 3-A Conference basketball action Friday night at the Wildcats’ gym. North Gaston’s boys scored a 60-57 victory in the nightcap to run their SWC mark to 2-0, giving them a share of first place with R-S Central and Shelby. Kings Mountain’s boys fell to 0-2 in the SWC and 6-4 overall. Kings Mountain’s girls seemed to have their game in control in regulation, but North Gaston came from eight points down in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 62-all and force an over- time. The score was knotted at 66-all after the first extra period and 70-all after the se- cond overtime. North Gaston held the up- per hand most of the way but never could break the game open. Hal White’s ‘Cats had an 11-8 lead after the first period, a 28-21 halftime ad- vantage and a 48-45 lead go- ing into the fourth quarter. The girls won 40-39 when a last-second field goal attempt by Shelby failed and the boys fell 86-72 to the Shelby quint which is unbeaten in the con- ference. The KM teams travel to South Point Friday night and to Chase next Tuesday before returning home for four straight games.
