Oscar Stalcup = = eS 3 es nr Ashlie Writes Recipe Book EDITOR’S NOTE-Ashlie Ed- miston, 11, of Route 2, Moravian Falls, granddaughter of Rev. and Mrs. Buddy Williams of Kings Mountain, has written “A Sour Dough Delight” for ‘Seasoned With Love”, a book of stories and recipes written by students from all over the state and published by the International Reading Association. Daughter of Carolyn and Jeff Edmiston, Ashlie is a sixth grader at Mora- vian Falls Elementary School in Wilkes County. Her hobbies in- clude bike riding and horseback riding. Her story follows: An aide at Moravian Falls school in North Carolina makes sour dough bread. She makes the bread mostly for fun, but she tries to help people also. About five years ago a friend of hers gave her a bread starter. She has to feed this bread once a week. She sells the bread to different places, mosstly to other Stalcup’s Team Wins Again “The last shall be first” Rev. Oscar Stalcup told his competi- tion after his team won Fours- quare Church’s annual golf tour- nament on the last shot of the day April 30 at Mountain Creek Golf Course. It marked the second straight year Stalcup’s team had been the last one off the tee and won on the last shot. His team has won the ti- tle three of the past four years. Stalcup, Jody Long and Brent Farmer combined for a nine- under par. to edge Bob Crouch, Ken Worley, Dennis Denton and Kacy Denton. That team also finished nine under but Stalcup’s team had a birdie on the 11th hole to win scorecard playoff. Third place was Denny Dockery, Howard Rhyne, Jeff Worley, and Scott Heavner. Cansler St., has been charged with first degree kidnap- ping, first degree burglary, assault with deadly weapon and child restriction violation. His bond was set at $500. She says she does it because she cares about others and she feels she is on a mission to do that and she says she enjoys doing what she is doing a lot. Sour Dough Bread 3/4 cup sugar 1 cup warm water...stir it up and let it sit overnight. Next morning make up bread. 1 cup bread starter 1/4 cup sugar 1 tablespoon salt 1/2 very warm water 6 cups of bread flour 1 cup of corn oil... mix it all up. Cover with cloth in a bowl. Let that sit all day. At night knead the mixture. Next divide into three equal parts. Put in loaf pans. Let it sit over night to let that rise again. In the morning bake at 325-350 degrees for 22 minutes. Take out and eat. : She thinks that the bread is passed from friend to friend. The woman that makes and sells this bread is Faye Joines. ] ROOKIE COP-Melvin C.
