Of course the businesses want to help their local units and are almost always willing to res- pond to the telephone solicita- tion. The problem is, the callers use a slick sales pitch full of pro- mises, leading the businesses to believe part of the money will be a direct contribution to the squad. You and I know that isn’t always true. It’s almost impossi- ble to catch these schemers, but with your help we can try. Public | exposure through your local radio and television stations and newspapers is a very good way to begin a prevention campaign. When you get complaints, let us | know about them. Keep in mind that we need to know the date of the solicitation, the name of the | person who called and what they said to get the businesses to send | money. (N.C. The first and biggest is the Independence Day Celebration | on July 4. Other projects he will be working on include making | necessary repairs on city recrea- tional facilities such as the swim ming pool and some ballpark restrooms. Preliminary Census Activity To Begin In KM Area Preliminary field activities on the 1990 Census will begin this summer in North Carolina. Most counties in the state, with the ex- ception of the coastal and moun- tainous counties, will be involved in this large scale field listing operation. According to William F. Hill, Regional Director of the Charlotte office of the Census Bureau, this preliminary field listing is the first step in prepar- ing a comprehensive list of mail- ing addresses in North Carolina. Approximately one thousand residents in the state will be hired to complete this adress listing project. The task involves listing the address of housing units in selected areas outside of larger cities. Each housing unit is listed on a master listing sheet and spotted on a corresponding map. In 1989 the Census Bureau will go into the larger cities in the state and check addresses prepared by commercial ven- dors. In late 1989 the Census Bureau will go into the coastal and mountainous counties of the state and list addresses. The goal of these listing opera- tions is to obtain a complete list of addresses in the state. A cen- sus questionnaire will then be received by each of these ad- dresses in March of 1990. The Census Bureau’s im mediate task is to hire en numerators Commission (Job Service), at Kings Mountain Community Center. Park Concession in the areas to prepare the address listings.
