ANDREW VAN PUTNAM Mason-Putnam Pair Wed In Ceremony In Gastonia Putnam, the groom’s brother, of Bessemer City; Rick Mason, the Jane Ewbank Mason of Gastonia and Andrew Van Put- nam of Bessemer City exchang- ed their marriage vows June 18 in a 7:30 p.m. ceremony at First United Methodist Church in Gastonia. Dr. Richard Crowder of- ficiated. Elizabeth Miller, organist; Elizabeth Saine, flutist; Holly Dellinger, soloist; and a brass ensemble presented a program of wedding music. The bride was given in mar- riage by her father, Richard Har- rison Mason Jr. of Gastonia. Kathy Lusk of Irmo, S.C., was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Anne Beam, cousin of the bride, of Dallas; Kelly Belton of Gastonia, Leanne Griffith of Newberry, S.C:; Cathy Page ‘of Chesterfield, S.C., Mary Allen of Bennettsville, S.C., and Beth Bright of Gastonia. The bride was lovely in her mother’s wedding gown made of chantilly lace with a sweetheart neckline embroidered with seed pearls and sequins. The hemline of the skirt which featured a cathedral train was scalloped. She carried a cascade bouquet of white bridal roses, stephanotis, and valley lillies. Her cathedral length tulle veil was attached to a headpiece of pearls, silk roses, and lillies of the valley. The groom’s father, Jessie Van Putnam of Bessemer City, was best man. Ushers were Robbie bride’s brother, of Gastonia; Mark Herndon and Chris Hern- don, cousins of the groom, of Kings Mountain; Trip Hord of Gastonia, Ryan Jenkins of Bessemer City, Mike Ferguson of Charlotte, Charles Gallman of Mount Holly, Stan Holden of Seacaucus, N.J., and Brooks Patti of Greenville. Jordan Burrell of Gastonia was flower girl. Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Harrison Mason Jr., hosted a reception in the family life center of First United Methodist Church. For a going- away outfit, the bride chose a dress and jacket of floral chinty with a white corsage. After a Carribean cruise, the couple will reside in Gastonia. The bride is a graduate of Hunter Huss High School and earned a B.S. degree from Clem- son University, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, and Delta Sigma Pi Business Fraternity. She was presented at the 1984 Gastonia Debutante Ball. She is employed by Wachovia Bank and Trust Company in Gastonia. BALLEW ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED — Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Ballew announce the engagement of their daughter, Tonya Michelle, to Rex Eugene Dye, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Eugene Dye. Both families are of Kings Mountain. The bride-elect is a graduate of Kings Moun- tain Senior High School and is employed by United Parcel of Shelby and by Freightliner of Gastonia. The prospective bridegroom is a graduate of Kings Mountain Senior High School and Western Carolina University. He is employed by Dye Electric Company of Kings Mountain. The couple plans a September 10 wedding. In a 6 p.m. ceremony, Rhonda Denise Bridges became the bride of Scott Anthony Van Pelt on Saturday, June 18, 1988, at Mt. Beulah Baptist Church, Bessemer City. : The officiating minister was Rhonda’s uncle, Elder Paul B. Stroupe of Locust, N.C. Organ music was provided by Mrs. Nell Myers, aunt of the bride, and pianist, Doris Myers, cousin of the bride. Vocalists were Rhonda House of Gastonia and Steve Perkins of Stanley. The bride is the daughter of Dennis and Bonnie Bridges of Route 3, Kings Mountain, and granddaughter of Ethel Stroupe of Dallas and Roy Bridges of Kings Mountain. She is a 1982 graduate of Bessemer City High School where she was President of the Student Body and Homecoming Queen her senior year and was presented at the Shelby Debutante Ball in 1982. A 1985 graduate of Appalachian State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Com- munications Media, she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorori- ty. Rhonda is an Account Ex- ecutive in Advertising for Knight Publishing Company with Gaston Neighbors, Gastonia. The bridegroom is the son of Pat Van Pelt of Dallas and grandson of Annie Belle Van Pelt of Lowell. He is a 1978 graduate of Ashbrook High School and at- tended Tusulem College in Ten- nessee and Gaston College. He is employed as hydraulics techni- cian with Wix Corporation in Gastonia. Dennis Bridges, father of the bride, greeted the guests on the church porch which was decorated with plants and white furniture giving a small cour- tyard effect. A lovely swan con- tainer, a family heirloom, was looped with pearls and ribbons which held green plants served . as the focal point. Vows were spoken before an alter set with spiral brass candelabras holding lighted white tapers intertwined with ivy. Western palms and ferns were used throughout the sanc- tuary. Each window held three lighted white tapers encircled with ivy. The couple lit the Unity Candle decorated with ivy and white satin bows. The mothers’ pews were marked with a brass candelbra with ivy and the other pews were marked with white satin bows. Mr. Bridges escorted his daughter to the altar where his wife joined him to give her in marriage. The bride wore a floor-length sheath gown of Old- Fashioned Chantilly Lace elegantly bordered with silk venise and brussels appliques. The bodice detail has a notched wedding band collar of silk venise leading down to the mock- sweetheart neckline of illusion net decorated with silk venise ap- pliques showered with baby pears and sequins. The fitted odice is accented by a basque waistline outlined with silk venise aqqliques. The sheer illu- sion net continues mid-back and is elegantly bordered with em- broidered schiffli. The shirred Gibson Girl sleeve is of the same Old-Fashioned Chantilly Lace detailed at the wrist by a hand of brussels. The floor-length sheath flirts akick-spilt in the front edg- ed with silk venise and schiffli and beautifully enhanced by apeplum. The detachable Chapel Length train is adorned with a matching border. Her headpiece MRS. SCOTT ANTHONY VAN PELT and veil is a white half-wreath of imported organza flowers, waterfall pearls, irridescent flowers with a pouf at the back with a two-tier fingertip rolled- edged illusion veiling. Her bou- quet was designed in a tear-drop fashion attached to a white satin and lace covered Bible which was her mother’s wedding Bible. One white rose with fern, ivy, lily of the valley adorned the top with strands of pearls, & irridescent white lace ribbon cascading. She also carried the lace-edged han- dkerchief of her mother’s. Teresa Coleman, cousin of the bride from Kings Mountain was the Matron of Honor. The other attendants were: Jennifer Barger of Charlotte, Barbara "Bridges ‘and Leslie Van Pelt of Gastonia, Lisa Smith of Kings Mountain and Kim Still of Plea- sant Garden. The attendants wore Royal Blue tea-length lace over taffeta dresses with a han- dkerchief hemline falling softly from the close-fitted bodice with sweetheart neckline and basque waistline. Taffeta bows accented the elasticized shoulders of the handkerchief sleeves. Ac- cessories were royal blue lace gloves and royal blue satin pumps. Their hair was adorned with royal-blue silk flowers with pearl trim. They each carried brass bells with one white rose, fern, and ivy accented with white lace ribbon intertwined with royal blue satin ribbon and a white lace edged handkerchief with their names cross-stitched in royal blue. These were gifts from the bride. Honorary Attendants were Susan Mastin and Kathryn Blan- chard of Charlotte, Tammy Browning of Greensboro, and Jodi Newman of Gastonia. They each carried one long-stemmed white rose with white lace ribbon entertwined with royal blue rib- bon on a brass letter-opener which were gifts from the bride. The bridegroom chose his brother, Dale (Rusty) Van Pelt of Gastonia, as Best Man. Groomsmen were: Jeff Gray and Richard Young of Gastonia, Ladd Bridges of Kings Mountain, Chris Smith of Charlotte and Jeff Shephard of Lincolnton. Honarary Groomsmen were James Boyd and Bruce Costner of Gastonia, Max Tinkler of Dillon, S.C. and Bill Young of Charlotte. The Guest Register was attended by Robin Moffitt of Bessemer City and John McEI- veen of Kings Mountain was the Bride’s Honorary Servant with the Rolling of the Isle Cloth. The bride’s mother wore a light-blue tea-length lace dress with a high neckline with short cap sleeves. The straight skirt was asymmetrically draped with an overlay skirt and satin bow. As accessories, she wore white lace gloves, white lace pumps and a wrist corsage of a white or- chid. The bridegroom’s mother wore a pale pink tea-length satin with lace overlay dress with long tapered sheer lace sleeves and a fitted bodice with gathered skirt. The dress has an accented square collar with flower motiff. Her accessories were white lace gloves and shoes with a wrist cor- sage of a white orchid. The wed- ding was directed by LaVerne Stroup, Aunt of the bride, from Locust. RECEPTION Immediately following the wedding, a reception was held in the church’s fellowship hall given by the bride’s parents. The hall was decorated with palms, ferns with white lattice backdrops with trailing ivy and plants depicting an outdoor garden scene with white fur- niture. The serving tables were centered by a tall plant arrange- ment in white, and royal blue with candles flanked by a fresh vegetable tower and a fresh fruit tower. The table covers were white lace trimmed in royal blue Ross-Adams Vows Exchanged Donna Roxanne Ross and Jerry Shane Adams exchanged their marriage vows May 29 at the Kings Mountain Depot. “The HOlidays” presented a program of wedding music. The bride is the daughter of A Betty and Archie Ross of Route 5, Kings Mountain. She is a graduate of Kings Mountain High School. The groom is the son of Jerry and Belinda Adams of 414 Somerset Drive. He is also a graduate of Kings Mountain High School. Archie Ross gave his daughter in marriage. She wore a satin dress. Tammy Jenkins of Kings Mountain was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Teresa Griggs of Shelby and Kelly Huffstetler of Kings Mountain. They wore lavender dresses. Jerry Adams was his son’s best man. Ushers were Blaine HOllifield of Kings Mountain and Steve Dellinger of Shelby. Dora Lee Bridges hosted the wedding reception at the Depot. Following a wedding trip to Myrtle Beach, the couple is at home in Shelby. - Broccoli Soup, MRS. JERRY SHANE ADAMS bows. The cake table held a four- tier all-white wedding cake flanked by four smaller cakes with a fountain of blue water and fresh blue cornflowers adorned the layers which was topped with a white satin wedding bell. The wedding cake was cut and served by cousins of the bride-Becky Coppedge and Cynthia Ennis of Monroe. The punch was served by cousins of the bride--Linda Anderson of Gastonia and Ann Mathis of Bessemer City. The other hostesses were Carol Sue Johnson of Dallas and Carol Tomberlin of Charlotte, also cousins of the bride. Guests were greeted by Kathy Hinson and Janet Hughes, cousins of the bride from Monroe, and then invited to en- joy the display and pictures and memorabilia of the honored cou- ple. Shannon Cloninger of Dallas, handed out programs, scrolls and bird seed packets. Crystal Tate of Dallas provided the piano music during the reception and Jerry Blackwood of Bessemer City was photographer and Rick Ware of Kings Mountain was videographer. ‘‘Just Us’ of Kings Mountain did the catering and Peggy's Bonquets of Bessemer City was the florist. Approximately 300 friends and family members shared in this special occasion. REHEARSAL DINNER The bridegroom and his mother hosted a rehearsal dinner and dance Friday night, June 17, at the Little Big Horn in Stanley. A buffet dinner of steak, salad and baked potato was served to the wedding party of 50 after the wedding rehearsal. Scott remembered his groomsmen with gifts. HONEYMOON After a wedding trip to the Poconos Honeymoon Resort in Pennsylvania, the couple will be at home on Lake Wylie, Belmont. ATTENDANTS’ LUNCHEON At 11:30 a.m. on June 18, Rhon- da honored her attendants with a luncheon at the Magnolia House in Gastonia. A colorful plate of Quiche, Fruit Cup, Tossed Green Salad and Sherbet were served to her atten- dants and mother and mother-in- law to be. Special thanks and thoughts, gifts were given to the attendants by Rhonda, her mother-Bonnie Bridges and Pat Van Pelt-mother of the Bridegroom. Rhonda presented her future mother in law with a framed verse titled: “TO THE MOTHER OF THE GROOM.” Each place was marked with a lace trimmed handkerchief with their names cross-stitched in royal blue-handmade by Bonnie Bridges and given to the atten- dants to carry in the wedding. Handmade crocheted umbrellas and doilies were presented to the attendants by Pat Van Pelt-the bridegroom’s mother. Rhonda resented her attendants with rass bells decorated with one white rose, fern and ivy accented with white lace ribbon intertwin- ed with royal blue satin ribbon to be carried in the wedding. Honorary attendants were presented with brass letter openers accented with one white long-stemmed rose and white and blue lace ribbon to be car- ried in the wedding. A pineapple adorned the bells and letter openers which depicted her message to them. ‘Scott and I extend our Hospitality and con- tinued friendship to you always. Thank you and welcome to our new home.” Events Honor Alyson White Mr. and Mrs. R.G. Franklin entertained Alyson White and Craig Hall at their home in River HIlls Plantation, S.C., with a cook-out on June 12. The couple will be married June 25. Special guests were Mrs. Jack White of Kings Mountain, mother of the bride and her sister and brother- in-law, Mr. and Mrs. David Mauney of Cherryville. The cou- ple was presented a gift of a plant and serving tray. Mrs. Dwight Hord, Mrs. Lillian Michael and Mrs. Joe Whisnant entertained at Mrs. Whisnant’s home in Shelby with a luncheon on June 15 for Alyson. Special guests were Mrs. Jack White of Kings Mountain, mother of the bride and her sister, Mrs. David Mauney of Cherryville. The bride-elect was given an afghan in the Williamsburg pattern.
