= > a ! Obituaries PERRY L. SMITH WHITMIRE, S.C. - Perry Lee Smith, 50, died July 3 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Columbia. A native of Union, he was the son of Carrie Smith of Whitmire and the late David Smith. He was a machinist and veteran of the Armed Services. In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sons, Keith Smith of Kings Mountain and Shane Smith of Bessemer City; one brother, Olin Smith of Whit- mire; one sister, Ella Mae Bar- rett of Connecticut; and two grandchildren. Graveside services were con- ducted July 8 at 1 p.m. at Na- tional Military Cemetery in Florence. JENNIE WHISNANT Miss Jennie Mae Whisnant, 90, of Shannon Bradley Road, Gastonia, died July 13 at Kings Mountain Hospital. Services were conducted Fri- day at 2 p.m. at Gospel Assembly Church, Railroad Avenue, Kings Mountain, by the Revs. William Podaras, Leon Podaras and Tommy Lawson. Burial was in Gaston Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Gary Bryant, John Whitworth, Nor- man Crump, John McCart, Tom Kos and Tommy Lawson. REV. LEMMONS SHELBY - Rev. Norman Grady Lemmons, 79, of 4269 Emerald Mine Road, died Fri- day at his home. A native of Oconee County, S.C., Rev. Lemmons was foun- ding pastor of Davidson Memorial Baptist Church, which he served as pastor for 33 years. He also helped organize seven other churches, He was son of the late Palmer and Lizzie Lemmons and was a member of Clearview Baptist Church in Grover. He is survived by his wife, Elmina Riddle Lemmons; two sons, Rev. Rudolph N. Lemmon of Grover and W. Paul Lemmons of Shelby; a brother, Ray Lem- mons of Seneca, S.C.; three sisters, Mildred Stancel of Seneca, S.C., Helen Gray of Greer, S.C., and Alvenia Hallbrook of Gaffney, S.C.; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great- grandchildren. Services were conducted Mon- day at 2 p.m. at Clearview Bap- tist Church in Grover by the Rev. B.L. Queen, Rev. Jimmy E. Downsand Rev. Gene Arnold. Burial was in Cleveland Memorial Park. LELA OWENSBY BLACKSBURG, S.C. - Lela Isler Owensby, 90 of Mountain View Apartments, died Thursday at a local nursing home. A Cherokee County native, she was the daughter of the late Feliz and Annie Byars Isler and a member of Johnson Memorial Baptist Church in Gaffney. She was a retired textile employee. She was the wife of the late William Lee Owensby. Her first husband was the late Robert Fred Taylor. Survivors include a son, W.R. Taylor of Kings Mountain; three daughters, Eula Mae Porter of Blacksburg, Mary Bratton of Gaffney and Estelle Ray of Cowpens; 20 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Services were conducted Sun- day at 3 p.m. at Gordon Mor- tuary by the Rev. Jake Parker, N.B. Bright and the Rev. Danny Cannon. Burial was in Mountain View Cemetery. MAYNARD ODELL Maynard Lee Odell, 74, of 316 South Cansler Street, Kings Mountain, died Friday at Kings ; Mountain Hospital. A native of Wylie, Texas, he was the son of the late Dewitt and Susan Haynes Odell, and was a retired textile employee. Survivors include his wife, Mattie Lee Hudgins Odell; one son, Wayne Odell of Kings Moun- tain; two daughters, Inez Glad- den of Kernersville and Helen Smith of Kings Mountain; two brothers, Joe Odell and Frank Odell of Belmont; a sister, Roshell Harvey of Belmont; six grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. Services were conducted Sun- day at 3 p.m. at Second Baptist Church by the Rev. Eugene Land and the Rev. Phillip Squire. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. COLEMAN KEETER BESSEMER CITY - Coleman Lee Keeter, 65, of Route 3, Crowders Mountain Road, Bessemer City, died Friday at Cleveland Memorial Hospital. A Polk County native, he was the son of the late Lee and Pearl Jenkins Keeter. He was a self- employed mechanic and was working for Putnam Auto Parts. Survivors include his wife, Evelene Davis Keeter; one daughter, Barhara Carpenter of Bessemer City; three brothers, Bill Keeter of Kings Mountain, and Tom Keeter and Clyde Keeter of Shelby; three sisters, Mary Keeter of Bessemer City, Sally Buff of Shelby and Rosie Harris of Rutherfordton; and one grandchild. Services were conducted Sun- day at 3 p.m. at Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church by the Rev. Mit- chell Pruitt and the Rev. Bruce Davis. Burial was in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church, Route 3, Box 92, Kings Mountain, N.C. 28086. MARTHA MILLS SHELBY - Martha Matheson Mills, 87, former Kings Mountain teacher, died Friday at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. A native of Marlboro County, S.C., she was the wife of the late Henry Adrian Mills and daughter of the late Julian Jernigian and Mattie McLeod Matheson. She was a member of Shelby Presbyterian Church. She was a 1922 graduate of Salem College and taught school for 28 1/2 years in Allendale, S.C., Mooresville, Lumberton, Shelby, Kings Mountain, Charlotte, Gaston County and Cleveland County. She is survived by a son, Henry Adrian Mills Jr. of Charlotte; a sister, Ellen M. Gilleland of Jacksonville, Fla.; and two grandchildren. Services were conducted Sun- day at 3 p.m. at Palmer Mor- tuary by the Rev. Fred Rose. Burial was in McCall Cemetery in Bennettsville, S.C. Memorials may be made to the Crossnore Home or to Shelby Presbyterian Church.
