ANNIE BLACK Funeral services for Mrs. An- nie Perry Black, 92, of 1011 Brookwood Drive, who died Thursday in Kings Mountain Hospital, were conducted Satur- day at 2 pm, at First Baptist Church of which she was a member. Dr. John Sloan, assisted by Rev. A.A. Bailey, officiated and interment was in Lakeland Memorial Park in Monroe. A native of Wingate, she was the daughter of the late Jeremiah Marshall and Lydia Ellen Stewart Perry. She was widow of F. Carl Black. Mrs. Black graduated from Wingate Junior College. A homemaker, she enjoyed playing the piano and art. She had made her home for several years with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Broadus Elam. Surviving are one son, W. Layne Black of Wingate, and two daughters, Mrs. Annie Merritt of Birmingham, Ala. and Mrs. Ellen Elam of Kings Mountain; 12 grandchildren and nine great- grandchildren. Harris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. MRS. VERA McGINNIS Memorial services for Mrs. Vera Whitaker McGinnis, 84, of Route 3, Ellenboro, who died Fri- day in Cleveland Memorial Hospital, were conducted Sunday at 4 p.m. at Beaver Dam Baptist Church of which she was a member. Rev. Dan Silvers, Rev. Paul Sorrells and Dr. William Tyson officiated. A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late V.0. Whitaker and Florence Bridges Whitaker and a retired school teacher. She was wife of Rev. William Fletcher McGin- nis, of the home, who survives, in addition to her daughter and son- in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Norman F. McGill, Jr., of Kings Mountain and two grandsons, Norman F. (Trip) McGill and William D. (Chip) McGill, all of Kings Mountain. WOODY LONDON Funeral services for Woody London, 60, of 615 Meadowbrook Road, who died Monday night at 11:15 p.m. in Kings Mountain Hospital of Lou Gehrig’s disease, will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at Kings Mountain Baptist Church. Rev. Robert Collins will be assisted by Rev. Jack Cooke of Cherryville in officiating at the rites. Interment will be in Cher- ryville City Cemetery. Mr. London graduated from Cherryville High School and the University of North Carolina School of Pharmacy. He came to Kings Mountainin 1960 and open- ed Medical Pharmacy on S. Bat- tleground Avenue which he own- ed and operated for several years. Prior to his recent illness, he worked as a pharmacist at Revco Drug Store at West Gate Plaza. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. A native of Lincoln County, he was the son of Mrs. Mary Houser London of Cherryville and the late Lawton Woosley London. He was married to Barbara Branch London. Surviving, in addition to his wife and mother, are his son, Shane London of Kings Mountain his sister, Mrs. Joann Allen of Cherryville; and one grandson, Brandon London. The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home. Mike Wilson, 35, of 1409 Shelby Road, was treated for injuries and released at Kings Mountain Hospital Tuesday night after a one-car accident about 10 p.m. on Stewart Road. N.C. Trooper Mike Chapman said that Wilson was traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his Mustang going North on Stewart Road, came back across the centerline, hit a telephone pedestal, spun around and came to rest in a ditch bank. He was thrown out of the vehicle with his upper body on the ground and his feet hanging on the passenger area of the car. INCIDENTS City police are investigating the following incidents: Breaking and entering at the Community Center, 208 N. Cleveland Ave., where AT&T telephone valued at $250 and 15 exercise tapes valued at $5 each were damaged. A glass window was broken out to gain entrance. Nothing was missing after thieves broke into Revco Drug, 1318 Shelby Road. Ptl. Rena Rikard said that $500 in damage was reported and vandals broke a front glass door to gain en- trance. Larceny of $5.12 worth of gasoline was reported by 66 Ser- vice Station. Hardee’s Restaurant, 509 E. . King St., reported theft of $87.40 from the cash drawer. : Travis Bess, 92 Pine Manor, said he was bit by a dog while walking on Lake Montonia Road. U-Can Rent, 1401 West Franklin Blvd., Gastonia, reported that a windshield was broken out while the truck was parked on Groves Street. Wilburn Ernest Crawford, 505 N. Cansler St., reported that $200 worth of sports equipment was removed from his car while parked at Winn Dixie. KM Express Store, 212 W. King St., reported larceny of $5.01 worth of gasoline. Vandalism was reported by Samuel McDaniel, Apt. 19 Battle Forest, who said vandals broke out a window of his car. Police Crime Of The Week The Kings Mountain Police Department through Crime Stoppers is seeking information regarding the following Vandalisms to vehicles parked on the following streets: Chestnut St., Groves St., North Piedmont Ave., Second St., North Piedmont Ave., Second St., North Gaston St., Katherine Ave., and Rhodes Ave. All vehicles were vandalized during the late night of August 30 and early morning of August 31, by person(s) unknown. In each case the vandals broke out taillights and threw rocks through the windshields of the vehicles. Anyone having information about this or other crimes in the area may call 481-TIPS (481-8477) to become eligible for a reward up to $1000.00. All information will be kept confidential. Treasurer Marvin Chappell said that donations and pledges also total $2,085.50 which represents 83 percent of the city’s quota of $3,830. “We are very appreciative of all those who turned out for the barbecue and appreciate the city employees who took the in- itiative to help raise some of the money for our share of the cam- paign,”’ he said. “We hope to reach our goal early,” said Chappell. Utility Bills Are Extended Utility customers have until Oct. 7 to pay their September bills without a late fee penalty.
