JAKE CROCKER
Funeral services for Jake
Crocker, 61, of 323 Crocker Road,
who died Thursday in Cleveland
Memorial Hospital, were con-
ducted Sunday at 3 p.m. at Long
Branch First Baptist Church of
Grover by Rev. Larry Dixon and
Rev. Robert Abbott, interment
following in the church
cemetery.
A native of Cleveland County,
he was the husband of Earlean
Stephens Crocker and the son of
the late Roddie and Alberta
Craig Crocker.
A member of Long Branch
First Baptist Church, he par-
ticipated on the deacon board
and in choir. He was also a
member of the Masonic Star
Lodge No. 5 and the Friendly Aid
Society of Compact Community.
He was retired from Eaton Cor-
poration.
In addition to his wife, he is
survived by seven sons, Herbert
Crocker of Decatur, Ga., Joseph
Crocker of Hickory, William
Crocker of Gastonia and John,
James, Walter and Ruper
Crocker, all of Kings Mountain;
one daughter, Tonya Gordon of
the home; two brothers, Charles
Crocker of Kings Mountain and
James Crocker of Bessemer Ci-
ty; one sister, Margaret
Chambers of Winston-Salem; 20
grandchildren and five great-
grandchildren.

Funeral services for Carrie
Davis Grigg, 92, of 916 Second
St., who died Tuesday, Sept. 20 in
the Kings Mountain Hospital,
were conducted Friday at 3 pm
at Tabernacle of Love Church by
the Rev. Spurgeon Scruggs and
Rev. George Leigh, interment
following in Mountain Rest
Cemetery.

N.C. League Resolution
Honors George Thomasson
George B. Thomasson, former
city attorney, was recently
honored by resolution at a
meeting of a state-wide associa-
tion and announced at Tuesday’s
regular council meeting.
Attorney Thomasson, a Duke
University graduate and long-
time legal representative of the
city, remains in private practice
in Kings Mountain.
The resolution by the affiliate
of the North Carolina League of
Municipalities follows:

Thomasson served ably and well
for many years as City Attorney
of the City of Kings Mountain;

Clarifies
Action On Gas Rates
City council Tuesday night
clarified an earlier action regar-
ding natural gas rates with a
resolution stating that it is the in-
tent of the city to no longer
charge a minimum bill for 3,000
cubic feet consumption or less,
but rather to charge strictly on
the amount consumed monthly.
The action was taken mostly to
provide a fairer way to charge
small businesses and residents
who would use less than the
nium charge in warm mon-

with retroactive application to
those bills mailed in September.

Water Meeting
Slated In Shelby
Director Joe R. Hendrick of
the county economic develop-
ment commission, has announc-
ed a meeting in Shelby Wednes-
day where results of the county-
wide water resources study will
be presented.
Woodrow Yonts, chief of the
water supply assistance section
of the N.C. Dept. of Natural
Community
Development, will present the
study at 4 p.m. at the county
courthouse room 104-D.
The recent study relates to
‘population use and projections,
water use and projections and
availability of water in Cleveland
County. ;
Invited to the meeting are
representatives of Kings Moun-
tain, Fallston, Lawndale,
Grover, Shelby, Cleveland Coun-
ty, Piedmont Metro. Water
District, Upper Cleveland
Sanitary District and Isothermal
Planning Commission.
Joins KM Police
Mrs. Vivian Scoggins Payne of
Grover has joined the Kings
Mountain Police Department as
a dispatcher.
Mrs. Payne is wife of Robert
Allen Payne, who is employed
with Scope Services of Charlotte,
and they are parents of three
hildren: Robby, 13; Travis, 12;
and Jonathan, 7.
A graduate of East Rutherford
School in Forest City and a
eveland County native, she
formerly worked for Bullfrog
Knit in Gastonia.
ETHEL S. YARBOROUGH
Graveside services for Ethel
Opal Stroup Yarborough, 80, of
Route 1, Asheland, Va., formerly
of Cherryville, were conducted
at 11 a.m. Friday by Rev. Jeff
Brendle at New Prospect Baptist
Church Cemetery in Shelby.
She was a native of Gaston
County, widow of Thomas D.
Yarborough and daughter of the
late Willis Gaston and Lona
Jones Stroup. She was formerly
employed by Firestone Testiles
in Gastonia.
Survivors include three sons,
Henry Yarborough of Shelby,
James W. and Tommy Yar-
borough, both of Kings Moun-
tain; daughter, Betty Willis of
Ashland; brother, Bob Stroupe of
Cherryville; sister, Paulene Yar-
borough of Gastonia; nine grand-
children and three great-
grandchildren.
MRS. BLAKE
VENICE, FLA. - Mrs. Aurela
Lawshe Blake, 84, of 900 South
Tamiami Street, died September
26 in Kings Mountain Hospital.
A native of Newark, N.J., she
was the daughter of the late
Theodore and Mary Vanness
Lawshe. Her husband was the
late Edmond Blake.
She was a housewife and
member of Venice Presbyterian
Church.
