Page 6A-THE KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Wednesday, December 21, 1988 Hey, Santa! Don't Forget These Dear Santa: Well, big guy, it's almost that time again. And, as usual, I'm a little late getting my requests in. You might say this prognosticator is a procrastinator. But, still, could you consider bringing the following: Another successful Kings Mountain Sports Hall of " Fame banquet. Last year's initial banquet was outstanding...And Hall of Fame induction for some deserving citizens... A return to good health for Kings Mountain's contribution to pro football, Kevin Mack of the Cleveland Browns. He's played in only two full games this year because of injuries...And a Super Bowl championship for the Browns... A pro contract for Clemson fullback Tracy Johnson, who played two years of high school ball at Kings Mountain. All-American honors for Kings Mountain's Calvin Stephens of the USC Gamecocks, and All-ACC honors for KM products Aubrey Hollifield and Rusty Sports Talk Gary Stewart football coach, Bob Waters, who is battling MS... A lot of quail for Eugene Goforth and Harold Wells. They've had so many dry runs lately they've been considering shooting blackbirds... Plenty of flounders in the sea and a lot of big bass and crappies in the local lakes for my fishing buddy, David Hughes. He can't land them though, unless I'm around to coach him... A great, big steak for Junior Causby, the only guy I a To ios A Nu Po I SU rp 4 * Plants From Page 1-A Anvil Knitwear will close at 10 p.m. on Dec. 22, resuming operations on Jan. 2 at 10 p.m. Maude Norris, Personnel Manager, said that Christmas bonuses and vacation checks will be paid to eligible employees and that employees receive hams and gift selections from a company catalog. She said that plant parties are held in each department. Ms. Norris said the plant has been running three shifts six days a week and that business is x Love Center Tultex Yarns will close for the holidays on Dec. 23 at 10 p.m., reopening on Jan. 2 at 10. p.m. Vacation payments and bonuses are paid eligible employees who also receive gift certificates for turkeys or hams. The annual plant luncheon is Dec. 23. Minette Mills of Grover will close for the holidays on Friday, Dec. 23 and Monday,Dec. 26. Employees may also choose a gift from a company catalog. Kings Plush will close the full week of Christmas. The plant will close at 11 p.m. on Dec. 23, reopening onlJan.2 at 7 a.m. In addition to the extra children the center has served because of taking over the fire department's program, it has families referred to it by the Red Cross, area civic clubs, ministers, and other families that it serves. Some of the families have six or seven children and the center tries to give each child one new toy and at least two used ones, as well as food and clothes. Bumgardner at Wake Forest... A healthy knee and a starting position for Kings Mountain's Brent Bagwell at N.C. State. Bagwell enters State in January and will begin his first spring practice with the Wolfpack in February... A conference championship for Kings Mountain's Mountaineers, who have most of their players returning next year, but it'll be tough to achieve because state finalist Shelby, and several other SWC teams, also have most of their players back... A conference championship for Larry Sipe and his KMHS basketballers. Even though they're A young, the Mountaineers show a lot of promise. Just don't play so many overtime games... Improvement and some victories for Kings Mountain's girls, who are learning a new system installed by new coach Ronny Funderburke. Funderburke worked wonders with the KM jayvee program and will build a good girls team in time... Improved health for Kings Mountain High's wrestlers. Veteran coach Steve Moffitt is not one to make excuses, but a lot of his early-season losses this year have been because he's had so many players injured... Another conference championship for Kings Mountain Junior High's wrestlers. Phil Weathers has coached 11 straight championship teams at the junior high, so we feel sure you'll grant this request... More victories for North Carolina in the Shrine Bowl game. The Tar Heels ended a long, dry spell in this year's game... A season's pass to all Clemson football games for neighbor Calvin Huffman, the eternal Gamecock. He'd probably rather face a firing squad!... Fifteen to twenty victories for the Charlotte Hornets in their first season in the NBA. That would be quite an accomplishment...Pro football and major league baseball for this area, and it would be nice if the stadium were located on I-85... A few more victories next year for North Carolina's Tar Heels. Now, I'm not a Carolina fan, Santa, but this would make Bud Medlin and some of the other fine folks around KM happy... Better days for Western Carolina's outstanding Christmas Services Planned know who diets for three months before going to the doctor for his annual physical, and empties all of his pockets before he steps on the scales, and then, after leaving the doctor's office, goes to Hardee's to re-fuel... Passage of two local bonds in 1989 which will greatly benefit our community. One is the city's utilities bond referendum, which will improve sewer and electrical services in Kings Mountain, and the other is the county's school bond referendum which will allow the three county school systems to build some much- needed schools and improve other facilities... A well-rounded recreation program for the city. New recreation director David Hancock is doing a wonderful job, and we'll continue to see much improvement in recreation... American Legion baseball in Kings Mountain. Dixie Youth Majors is a fine program, but it's still not legion baseball... An ACC tennis championship for Kings Mountain's Bryan Jones, a freshman at Carolina...And another Jones for the KMHS tennis team... . Some soft pads for the arms of all of my sister-in-law Joye Spencer's chairs. Her husband, Ed, is the biggest Duke and Washington Redskin fan you've ever seen, and their chairs take quite a beating when Ed's watching a game and the Blue Devils or Redskins aren't playing well... A new sight for Allan Sinclair's shotgun. He claims to be a rabbit hunter, but you never see any rabbits. They say it sounds like a war, though, when he's out in the field... A "rainy" season for area farmers, who've seen most of their crops die in the dry summers of the past several years... A fatality-free Christmas holiday period for all persons who'll be traveling the highways over the next few weeks. That would also make life much easier for rescuers and law enforcement officers who have to give up much of their vacation time during this season... Better health for all persons who are ailing at this time of the year, and a period of rest for their loved ones who stay at their sides... A true feeling of what Christmas is all about... Good health, peace, and a Merry Christmas to all. The center operates on a budget of $400 per month. the budget pays for heating and lighting. All funds come from private contributions, so there is very little money left over after bills are paid. In other words, the center needs all the help it can get.
