Funeral services for Walter Lee Smith, Jr., 55, of 1000 Second St., who died Tuesday at home, will be conducted Thursday at 3 p.m. at Piedmont Baptist Church of which she was a member. Rev. Donald Denton, Rev. Bob Collins and Rev. Dick Whitener will officiate and interment will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery. A native of Kings Mountain, he was a textile employee and son of the late Walter Lee and Bessie Millsap Smith. Surviving are his wife, Frances Short Smith; two sons, Thomas Smith and Eddie Smith, both of Kings Mountain; two daughters, Wanda Brackett of Bessemer City and Janice Welch of Kings Mountain; one brother, Howard Smith of Kings Mountain; one sis- ter, Virginia Wiggins of Gastonia; and four grandchildren. BLANTON Funeral services for Buron Robert Blanton, 73, of 507 Woodside Drive, who died Wednesday in the Kings Mountain Hospital, will be conducted Friday at 3 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church. Rev. Wray Barrett and Rev. Joyce McIntyre will officiate and inter- ment will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Robert Lee and Lizzie Lovelace Blanton. He was a retired carpenter and member of Temple Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II, Surviving are his wife, Sarah “Dover Blanton; pne son, James Blanton of Kings Mountain; two daughters, Diane Hayes of Kings Mountain and Vickie Blanton of Clover,S.C.; six brothers, Raymond - Blanton, Sidney Blanton, and Wesley Blanton, all of Kings Mountain, Clyde and Thomas Blanton of Mooresboro and L. RALPH CALLAHAN Funeral services for Ralph Albert Callahan, 85, of Rt. 1, Rock Springs Community, Blacksburg,S.C.,were conducted Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Rock Springs Baptist Church by Rev. Perrin Parker and Rev. Curtis Daniel. Interment was in church cemetery. Mr. Callahan died Monday, Jan. 2, at the Peachtree Center in Gaffney. He was a native of Rutherford County, son of the late June and Carrie Callahan. He was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church and the Buffalo Lodge 202 AF&AM. He was a retired electrician. Surviving are his wife, Vera Wylie Callahan; three sons, Thomas Lloyd and Bobby Joe Callahan of Blacksburg and Franklin D. Callahan of Kings Mountain; three daughters, Pat Anthony of Boiling Springs, Carolyn Kuykendall of Kings Mountain and Elaine C. Moss of Blacksburg; one brother, J. C. Gordon Mortuary was in charge of arrangements. SONNY WILSON Andrew James (Sonny) Wilson, 73, of Route 4, died Jan. 2 in Kings Mountain Hospital. He was the son of the late Andrew Jackson and Birdie Hunt Wilson. He was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church where he served as a trustee. He was a retired textile worker. Surviving are his wife, Fearlene J. Wilson; one son, Daniel Thombs of Kings Mountain; two daughters, Barbara W. Biggers and Doris W. Wallace of Kings Mountain; one brother, Loucio W. Wilson of Kings Mountain; three sistes, Nina W. Mitchem and Ophelia W. Watson of Kings Mountain and Ossie Mae Wilson of Dodsonville; and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be conduct- ed Friday at 4 p.m. at Mount Olive Baptist Church by the Rev. W.A. Maddox, the Rev. Charles Turner, the Rev. M.L. Campbell and the Rev. Eddie Evans. William Fletcher McGinnis, 87, of 1305 Linwood Road, formerly of Ellenboro, were conducted Sunday at 3 p.m. at Beaver Dam Baptist Church of which he was a member, A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late James Weldon and Mary Elizabeth Humphries McGinnis. He was mar- ried to the late Mrs. Mary Whitaker McGinnis and was a retired Baptist minister having served for 23 years as pastor of High Shoals Baptist Church for 23 years. He attended Gardner Webb College and Wake Forest University and graduated from Crover Baptist Seminary, Chester, Pa. Surviving are his daughter, Mrs. Nancy McGill; son-in-law, Norman F. McGill, Jr. and grandsons, Trip McGill and Chip McGill, all of Kings Mountain; and two brothers, Ernest McGinnis of Shelby and Gilbert McGinnis of Climax, N. C. Rey. Paul Falls and Rev. C.; four sons, Charles McGinnis, Jr. of Stoney Point, Edward McGinnis of Rock Hill,S.C. and Roger McGinnis and Terry McGinnis, both of Statesville; one brother, Walter Ramey of Kings Mountain; five sis- ters, Mrs. Margaret Greene, Mrs Tax Penalty Will Begin On Thursday Thursday is the last day taxpayers can pay 1988 property taxes and avoid a 2 percent penalty which ap- plies Friday. Cleveland County property own- ers formed long lines outside the Cleveland County Tax Office this week to take the tax break, accord- ing to Tax Collector Mary Alice Laughlin. Property taxes paid after Dec. 31 cannot be written off until returns are filed for 1989, she said. Taxpayers can mail in their pay- ments, but the tax office does not mail back a receipt unless the tax- payer includes a self-addressed stamped envelope. Otherwise, Mrs. Laughlin said the cancelled check serves as a receipt. Delinquent taxpayers will receive second notices in late January to be followed by legal action initiated by the county to collect unpaid taxes, said Mrs. Laughlin. ARTHURS Funeral services for Ivey Jacob Arthurs, 95, formerly of Mooresville, who died Monday in Kings Mountain Convalescent Center, were conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Cavin Funeral Home Chapel in Mooresville. Rev. Eugene Land and Rev. Harold Austin officiated and inter- ment was in Glenwood Memorial Park in Mooresville. A native of Iredell County, he was born Sept. 4, 1893 to the late Jacob Sidney and Julia Anne Louisa Plyler Arthurs. He was a retired dairy farmer and a charter member of Broadstreet United Methodist Church in Mooresville, He was also a member of the extension of Second Baptist Church in Kings Mountain and a member of Veterans of World War I. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Magdalene Ostwald Arthurs.
