KMHS Class Of 1973 Holds Reunion Fifty-two graduates of the Class of 1973 returned with their families for a 15th year reunion recently and ~ held a picnic at Lake Crawford fol- lowed by a get-acquainted party, program and dance at the American Legion building. The reunion committee included - Freida Sexton Ware, Vickie Loftin Rhyne, Diane Carroll Randall, Avis Owens Morrow, Laverne Byers Smith, And Tenna Leach Adams. The dining hall of the American Legion was decorated in the class colors of Carolina blue and white. Aluminum foil stars handmade by class members Freida Sexton Ware and Vickie Loftin Rhyne were sus- pended from the stage and bulletin board. A mirrored ball was also sus- pended from the ceiling for the dance. The tables were decorated with white tablecloths caught up with Carolina blue streamers. Evergreen trees and palms decorat- ed the hall along with beautifully appointed table decorations consist- ing of greenery, blue carnations, the class flowers, and candles. The punch table was decorated with mir- ror squares, votive candles and two crystal cylinders topped with mod- ern floral arrangements. The floral designs, which were made by Conrad Hughes, featured birds of paradise, orchid sprays, iridescent beads and multi-colored glitter sticks which added to the party theme of each table. Homemade hordouvres were catered by "Just For Us" and enjoyed along with a hand-carved watermelon fruit boat with sail welcoming the Class of '73.Booklets containing the names and addresses of the Class of 1973 had been prepared by the reunion committee and Myers Printing. All flowers and greenery used in the decorations were special gifts to the class from Randy and Beth Hughes McDaniel, both class graduates. A bulletin board decorated with memorabilia was a conversation piece. Posters had been made from copied annual pictures. Pictures and memorabilia were brought from Vickie Loftin Rhyne, Patsy Hullender Lee and Freida Sexton Ware. A copy of the last will and testament (copied from graduate Mike Bennett) was also displayed. Photos by I. G. Alexander of the various school plants the Class of '73 attended were also prominently displayed. Guest speaker for the event was Mrs. Jean Thrift, who was a new teacher the year that members of the Class of 1973 entered the freshman class at Kings Mountain High School. She reminisced of that first year of teaching and related humor- ous incidents involving some of the graduates. Of the 52 graduates (the class of 1973 numbered 300 graduates) the graduate who traveled the longest distance to attend was Beth Smith Wright of New Haven, Ct.- The graduate married the longest, 17 years, was Cynthia Clair Anderson. The graduate with the most chil- dren, 3, was Ire Lou Easley Moye; the graduate with the oldest child, at 17, was Pearl Fowler Brown; the graduate with the youngest child was Ire Lou Easley Moye at three months; the graduates who changed the most were Patsy Hullender Lee, Lynn Gann St. Clair, Frank Humphreys, Mike Hughes, Peggy Moore Parker, Cynthia Clark Anderson. Karen Ledford, Tenna Leach Adams, Mike High and Charlene Kiser Moss. Music for the dance was provided by Jay Worthington Smith. Letters were read to the class from former teacher Steve Baker and from Rev. and Mrs. Jerome Cash, Eddie Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Nanney and Randy Floyd, all of whom were unable to attend. The class made plans to meet again in five years and to recom- mend that reservations be made by the deadline date to secure a band and to cover all costs; that a sit down dinner be planned; that more involvement and participation from the class be obtained at future re- unions and that more involvement of class officers and teachers be sought. Children of returning graduates enjoyed putt-putt and other play- ground activities at Lake Crawford on the reunion day. Bill has 17 years vz KM Pianists To Perform At G-W Two students from Kings Mountain-Kimberly Hoyle and Michael Jordan-will be among the pianists performing in the Matinee Festival of Music Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Dover Theatre on the cam- pus of Gardner-Webb College in Boiling Springs. The program, to which the public is invited and no admission will be charged, will include general classi- cal music and the recital will be by17 pre-college music students who have been chosen by their teachers to perform. Also performing on the program will be Demeca Brewer, Danny Buckner, Andrea Cobaugh, Ann Ellis, Jonathan Lefcoski, Aaron Lesher, Sara Moore, Laura Royster, RADIO AND TV Catherine Talley, Kelly Taylor, and Lise Whiteheart. Singers will be Jennifer Austin, Lori Greene, Kim Moore and Sherri Quinn.
