td ps Page 8B-THE KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Wednesday, February 8, 1989 El Bethel Church Raises $445 At Monthly Breakfast Sunday Mrs. Clyde Bridges and children entertained at a birthday party for Clyde Bridges and Dennis Beatty. Clyde's birthday was Jan. 26 and Beatty's birthday was Feb. 6. They all enjoyed lunch at Western Steer in Shelby and returned to the Bridges home for cake and ice cream and an exchange of birthday gifts. Those attending were Mr. and Mrs. Manuel Ross, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Beatty and Brian of Fallston, Sherrie Beatty of Gardner Webb College and Mr. and Mrs. Ned Bridges and daughter of Gastonia. Methodost Youth of El Bethel Methodist Church are resuming meetings on Sunday nights. A large crowd attended the Saturday morning breakfast at El Bethel. A total of $445.00 was raised for the church. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Teague of Gastonia recently purchased the home of Mrs. Mae Matheny in the El Bethel Community and have moved into their new home. Wednesday Joy Senior Citizens met at David Baptist Church and en- joyed a luncheon and program. Guest speakers were Libby Blanton Dixon Has Lenten Service This week is the first column of Dixon Community News. Dixon Presbyterian Church held a ~ devotional service Wednesday night in celebration of Lent. Dr. Dean Jones of Gaston College was guest speaker. A light soup supper was served. Mrs. L. H. Stewart and Mrs. . ‘Verna Pressley visited their sister, El Bethel News RUTH GAMBLE and Steve Angeles of Home Federal Savings & Loan of Kings Mountain. Mrs. Jasper Ware has returned home after spending several weeks visit- ing in Aiken, S. C. with Mr. and Mrs. Jack George. They also visited Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Ware in Branford, Fla. and visited an aunt, Mrs. Lena Ware in a Gainesville, Fla. nursing home. The community is saddened by the death of Delmer Anthony. Mallie Parker, Joyce Phifer and Ruth Gamble spent Tuesday in Charlotte. Friday, Feb. 19 youth of David Baptist Church will go to Ridgecrest for a retreat and will spent two days and share with the congregation at the regular Sunday service. They will be accompanied by Bridget Buchanan. Dixon News BY BECKIE STEWART Mrs. Nina Parks in Nebo, N. C. for an overnight stay last week. The Dixon Senior Citizen's Club Library Receives $25,000 A spokesman for the Cleveland County Memorial Library has an- nounced that the campaign has re- ceived a gift of $25,000 from an in- dividual who chooses to remain anonymous. This boosts the cam- paign total to $485,000. Brownie Plaster, Vice-Chairman of the cam- ~ paign said that it is not unusual for some people to give money, yet want to be anonymous. She said that this gift underscores the tremendous support that private individuals are | giving to the fund-raising drive. So far, six individuals have given gifts Ritchie Rob Ritchie Robinson was honored on his 6th birthday Jan. 24 at a party | given by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. - Michael R. Robinson of Edgewood | Acres, in Mrs. Becky Sigmon's classroom at Bessemer City Primary School where Ritchie is a student. Clown-decorated cupcakes were | served with ice cream and cold | drinks to the children. Ritchie is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. William R. Robinson of Edgewood Acres and Mrs. Nell Falls of Kings Mountain and the late Doytt Falls. Ritchie has a 10-year-old sister, - Holly Robinson, who is a 4th grade | student at Central Bessemer City | School. '! Sunday, Feb. 12th, WMU will sponsor a Focus Day breakfast and a short program will be given by GA and Acteen groups of the church. Sunday night,Feb. 12th, members of David Church will see a film, "The Winnable War." Monday night a youth Bible Study was held at David church and directed by Bridget Buchanan. A Family night supper was held Wednesday night with meetings of Mission groups and youth and choir at David Church. Mrs. Lona Williams is improving at Charlotte Memorial Hospital. She expresses appreciation for prayers and cards. Next Wednesday night is the reg- ular family night supper and prayer meeting at David Baptist Church. will hold a Valentine party at the church Tuesday night. Supper will be served and a program is planned. Mrs. James Childers is leader. Gene Goforth continues to recu- perate at his home from surgery. Blacksburg Baptist Church in- vites the community to worship in a special service Sunday night at 6 p.m. for showing of a film on the Mr. and Mrs. Gary Stewart, Leigh Anne and Dee, visited Mrs. Stewart's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Rogers, in Taylorsville Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Margaret Childers enter- tained members of the Dixon Circle Tuesday night at her home. Mrs. Jackie Hughes led the Bible Study. Lee Wells of California, brother of Harold Wells of this community, has returned home after a lengthy hospital stay. Gregory Sinclair, grandson of Dixon Pastor and Mrs. Allen Sinclair, underwent ear and adenoid surgery recently in Charlotte and continues to improve at his home in Gastonia. Mrs. Dean Westmoreland is now at home after a lengthy hospital stay. Black Awareness Day Set The Lay Council of Bynum Chapel Church will sponsor Black Career Awareness Day at'6 p.m. Sunday at the church. Many young men and women representing business, education, medicine, ministry, law enforce- ment, legal law, mortuary science, engineering, secretarial science, and vocational fields will share their ex- perience and discuss their educa- tional backgrounds. They will also discuss educational requirements needed for certain careers. Everyone, and especially young people, are encouraged to attend. The theme of the meeting will be "We Care About Our Youth." Following the program, refresh- ments will be served in the church fellowship hall. Mrs. Margaret Leach is program chairperson. Carl Bennix is presi- dent of the Lay Council and Rev. S.J. Jackson is the church's pastor. GOSPEL SINGING There will be a gospel singing Saturday at 7 p.m. at True Gospel Holiness Church on Second Street. Local singers will be featured.
