Obituaries MARY SHAW Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Ellerbe Shaw, retired school teach- er, of 917 Grover Road, will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of which she ‘was a member. - Mrs. Shaw died Monday at Kings Mountain Hospital. A native of Darlington, S. C., she was the daughter of the late Edward Benjamin and Josephine McCall Ellerbe. She was widow of Wilson Flynn Shaw. Mrs. Shaw was a graduate of Winthrop College and a member of Kings Mountain Woman's Club, Thursday Afternoon Book Club, and Town and Country Garden Club. Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. W. T. Weir of Kings Mountain, with whom she made her home, Mrs. Paul Frye of Albemarle and Mrs. J. H. Bryan of Palatka, Fla. Dr. Eric Faust will oficiate at the rites and interment will be at 3 p.m. at Grove Hill Cemetery in Darlington, S. C. The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 7 until 9 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, East King Street, Kings Mountain, 28086. EDWARD ODOMS Funeral services for Edward Junior Odoms, 52, of Route 5, who died Saturday at Kings Mountain Hospital, were conducted Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church by Rev. D. C. Wilson, in- terment following in the church cemetery. A Cleveland County native, he was the son of the late Manathus and Edna Byers Odoms. He was a self-employed brick mson. Surviving are his wife, Willie Mae Odoms; one son, Eugene McCoy Odoms of Kings Mountain; two brothers, Charles L. Odoms of Kings Mountain and Gene A. Odoms of S. Norwalk, Conn., three sisters, Wilma O. Burden of Connecticut, Rita O. Hunt and Barbara Paysour of Kings Mountain; and one grand- child. Phillips, who chaired the city's committee in the recent successful election in which voters approved issuance of up to $9.23 million in general obligation bonds for utili- ties improvements, made the mo- tion to back the schools’ efforts. ~ Another member of the city's bond committee, Al Moretz of District I, seconded and the vote was 6-0 in favor. ~ Building Inspector Tom Fields submitted a report to council in ref- erence to the fee schedules in the codes recently adopted (8-9-88) and amended (Dec. '88). ~ "I agree with Tom ...these fees are too high ...it amounts to a re- duction of one-cent (a penney) per square foot involved and should be adopted,” City Manager George Wood told council. _ The new fees apply only to gen- eral construction in commercial /industrial renovations (Chapt. 7 (b) Art, I). Council also agreed to a joint dutch-breakfast meeting at 7:30 a.m. at Holiday Inn with members of the school board and of the Chamber of Commerce executive committee. Yates Sr., 68, of 4003 East Parker St., who died Monday morning in Gaston Memorial Hospital, were conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Mountain Rest Cemetery by Rev. Harwood Smith. Mr. Yates was a retired employ- ee of Dover Industries and was a Cleveland County native, son of the late Zuria and Frances Bennett Yates. He was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 155 and a World War II army veteran. Surviving are his wife, Helen Parrish Yates; one son, Eric Yates of Kings Mountain; two daughters, Jane Frye of Candler and Charlene Sellers of Kings Mountain; brother, Warren Yates of Kings Mountain; sister, Bonnie Blanton of Kings Mountain; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. RAY DAVENPORT Funeral services for Ray Michael Davenport, 37, of Aska Road, Blue Ridge, Ga., who died Sunday, Feb. 19 after extended ill- ness, were conducted Wednesday, Feb. 22, at 2 p.m. at New Antioch Baptist Church, interment follow- ing in the church cemetery. Born in Cleveland County, he was the son of Monroe and Ruby Lefevers Davenport. He was a self- employed electric motor rebuilder. Surviving are his wife, Pamela Swofford Davenport; two sons, Carl Ray Davenport of Vale and William Reid Skinner of Blue Ridge, Ga., one daughter, Dena Christine Skinner of Blue Ridge, Ga., his mother, Mrs. Ruby Lefevers Davenport of Kings Mountain; two brothers, John Junior Davenport of Texas and David Lee Davenport of Mooresville; his sister, Mrs. Peggy Mobley of Fayetteville, Ga. Ping Pong Clinic At Community Center The Kings Mountain Parks and Recreation Department is sponsor- ing a table tennis (ping pong) clinic and demonstration Tues., March 7 at 7 p.m. in room 115 of the Kings Mountain Community Center. The purpose of the program is to help determine local interest in the activity and investigate the possi- bility of establishing a table tennis club for the Kings Mountain area. A number of skills and techniques for beginners to tournament play- ers will be demonstrated. The clinic is free and open to the public. A native of Polk County, he was the son of the late William and Mattie Haney Moss. He was mar- ried to Lennie McCurry Moss who survives.
