i NTE Cleveland County Head Start program will sponsor Allan C. Hill's Great American Circus. The all new circus will be arriving in Shelby shortly after dawn on Wednesday, April 5, bringing with it all the fun, fanfare, thrills, excite- ment, color, sounds and smells of a real old time circus. This colorful caravan brings to you its daring and unusual performances, wild animals and the always menacing and wacky clowns. By 8 a.m. this small city on wheels of 15 tractors, trucks and trailers will be erected at the Cleveland County fair- grounds. The show will be alive with activity as tangled ropes, elec- tric cables, and wire rigging are un- loaded onto the fairgrounds. The familiar smell of fresh brewed cof- fee emanates from the cookhouse as 16,000 square feet of canvas is unrolled from the huge "Spool Wagon" and the stakes laid, while men and harnessed elephants pull together to raise the 200 by 110 foot big top. Soon the fairgrounds is transformed into a magical self sufficient city of rides, conces- sions, side shows, tents, banners, balloons and sweet smelling pop- corn as crew, animals and perform- ers prepare for the evening perfor- mances. A telephone campaign is now being conducted by the Head Start program offering children's tickets. Citizens will be asked to purchase a book of tickets which will send a number of less fortunate and spe- cial needs children to the circus. With each purchase made Head Start will provide a family ticket which allows a family of two adults and three children to enter WIN TALENT SHOW - Brian King and Will Mauney, left, won the fourth-fifth grade division and Virginia Hamilton and Erica Randall, right, won the sixth-seventh grade division in last week's elementary schools talent show at Barnes Auditorium.
