There'll be an added attraction at the Grover precinct polls--Judy Goad is the new registrar. Judy and her husband, James, and their two teenaged boys and one nine year old daughter, live in spring Acres. They operate Frank R. Burger fast food place in the northside of Charlotte on Plaza Road. Judy will be the petite, curly-haired one at the polls. I'll wear a flower in my hair so we won't get mixed up. Rita Keen will be the other petite. Wanted - All Grover Woman's Club members. Charter members are listed in front of GWC's first cookbook “Cleveland County's Treasure of Personal Recipes." Charter members and current members need to assemble. We have unfinished business. We have not had a meeting in 11 years. And while we're at it, let's lift up that whole crossroad section of Linden and Maple Streets. The linden and maple trees are greening. We want the residents of their namesakes to spring forth too). Ben Field returned to Tampa for the funeral of his sister and stayed on a few days to help put in order the loose ends that death leaves be- hind...Yet, death starts again the live that never ends. Our granddaughter, Laura Rountree of Lakeland, Fla., and her friend, Bill Winter of Charleston, S.C., both students at Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C., came to Grover for a daytime visit Friday afternoon. They were on their way to Mount Airy to visit with the Rountrees there. Bill had been to Lakeland to visit Laura during spring break. I asked him with which he was the most impressed-- Lakeland or Grover--and without pause, hesitation, hums, or haws, "Grover" was the immediate re- sponse. Naturally, and, of course... Others who came to Grover: Lois and John Gold's granddaugh- ter, Stephanie, came from Chickamanga, Ga.; Blanche and Phil Gold from Greenville, S.C.; Della Bolin Henderson from Lancaster, S.C.; Lola Faye Craig finally got here to see Zip and Margie and Ben; Lucy Batts, Julia Crawley, Jan Mills and Mrs. Lucy Crisp had Easter lunch together at their residence in front of Shiloh. Davenports Visit Parents Charles, Betty, Bryan, Jason and Carrie Davenport went Easter Sunday to visit with their parents and grandparents in Williamston, S.C. They had to return home early for Jason to make a t rip to the doc- tor with an ear infection. All the college students have re- turned to their respective schools after a short Easter break - Missy Bridges and Chris Lingerfeldt to Western Carolina and Amy Robinson to Presbyterian School of Christian Education in Richmond, Virginia. 0 Stormy Neal has begun work at Carowinds. She will work there on weekends until June and full time after that. She will be leaving October 2 for a tour of duty with the U.S. Navy. Mae Hager Spicer and daughter Julia spent Easter with Mae's moth- er, Mrs. Juanita Hager on Kiser Road. They also visited with sis- ters, Joan Smith and Rachel Kiser, and joined the Long Creek congre- gation for breakfast and Easter Sunday services. Mae has recently built a new house near Kenansville. She is retired from the Long Creek FRANCES WILSON Those who went away --Jean Francis visited Philip in Luray, Va.; Lucille Davis visited Andy and family in Asheville; Mary Rollins visited Rebecca and family in Atlanta. Mary will be going back before long for her granddaughter's wedding; Gene and Mary Putnam went to Norfolk to visit Vickie; Mickey Moss, his mother, Jeannie, Alice and Sarah Katherine made their annual Easter visit to Maryland. Bus and Monty Crisp visited in Columbia. All these folks and others went away, but came back. We always do. Grover! Our Grover! Where the Carolinas be- gin. We go away but come back home again. The hostess Hall of Fame award surely goes to Edith Morgan. Single-handedly she fed the Shiloh congregation (Janis said she did stir the slaw) Wednesday evening at her home a gourmet pinto bean supper with any trimming you so desired--including three kinds of cobblers. A goodly portion of her relatives had already feasted with her on Easter Sunday. Phyllis, Buzzer and Linda and Neal and his friend, and sister, Frances Borders, were at church with Edith and Vardell. We celebrate Christmas Day and then begin to put the decorations away and the carols go silent until next December. We celebrate Easter Sunday but we can't put away the decorations. The buds blossom--the blossoms come into full flower, fruit and vegetable. Easter songs cannot be silent. The birds sing because they have a song to sing. And, O Little Town of Grover, what a song we have to sing! Joy to the World! Every Sunday is a celebration of the res- urrection. Celebrate! Don't wait for Sunday. Happy birthday this week to April Wilson, daughter of Billy and Peggy Wilson; and to Jacob Wilson, son of Ben and Jeanette Wilson. April and Jacob are first cousins and share an April 5 birth- day. April is 6 years old and Jacob is 3 years old. Happy birthday wishes also go to Lottie Burton, who celebrated her birthday on April 3; and to Amy Fredell whose birthday is April 2. April and Jacob Wilson and Amy Fredell are great-grandchil- dren of the late Jim Bridges, whose birthday was April 1. We're kind of relieved they didn't make it on April Fool's Day, even if it was "Paw Jim's" birthday! A Beautiful Easter Season It was a beautiful Easter vaca- tion for kids and adults alike in our community. Easter family dinners and egg hunts among the children abounded. Some of us took advan- tage of the gorgeous weather on Easter Monday to take our horses to the Kings Mountain Battleground Park. With part of us on horseback and part of us riding in a cart we took off with coolers full of good food, tea, and cokes aboard. After a good long ride we stopped by a creekside deep in the woods to share our picnic lunch and let our horses munch on some fresh carrots. Picnic fare never tast- ed so good and later reclining sleepily against a shade tree, listen- ing to the water gurgling over the stones in the creekbed and our horses lazily swishing their tails as they stood near-by, I thought to myself, "this has got to be a little taste of heaven!!" We were happy to hear that our pastor finally got away for some relaxation even if it was only for one day. Rev. Mitchel Pruitt and his wife, Etta, and their grand- daughter, Cynthia, took a trip to Gatlinburg, Tennessee on the Tuesday after Easter. I hear they had a good day and no one de- serves it more! We would like to see them take more days off to rest and relax. Congratulations to Susan and Eddie Stewart! The Stewarts cele- brated their 21st wedding anniver- sary on Thursday, March 30.
