RESSURECTION LUTHERAN Resurrection Lutheran Church prepares to welcome its new pas- tor, Rev. John Futterer. Rev. Futterer has accepted the call and begins his first Sunday with Ressurection Lutheran on July 2. KINGS MOUNTAIN BAPTIST May 20, the Kings Mountain Baptist Church fellowship hall will transform into a country barn and host a real live Ho-Down. Rumor has it that stars from Hee Haw will be there to help everyone hee-haw. Festivities start at 6 p.m. The Church Keenagers will hold their "Spring Yard and Bake Sale" on Saturday, June 3, starting at 7 a.m. The youth will also be selling hotdogs. May 20 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Sunday, May 21, has been set aside as youth emphasis. During this service the older young people who are preparing to leave the nest will be recognized. The sermon subject will be on choosing a mate by Biblical standards. Parents will be honored and rec- ognized on Sunday, May 28th. DAVID BAPTIST CHURCH David Baptist Church had a Sunday School revival April 22-26, with Lewis Crawford from the Baptist Sunday School Board lead- ing. "David is reaching out into the community through the Sunday School to share the good news that the Lord our God loves and cares for them," said Rev. Brian Taule, pastor. Thig past Saturday, May 13, the Young Adult Ii Sunday School Class sponsored a walk-a-thon to raise funds for the remodeling of the church nursery. The past fund raisers for this project have been successful, but the goal has not quite been reached. There is a great confidence that the goal will be reached, and the project completed. Watch the church announcements section for future fund raisers. This coming SAturday, May 20, from 10 a;..m. - 2 p.m., the youth at DBC will be sponsoring a Bike/Walk-A-Thon for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The youth will be leading, as other organiza- tions and individuals bike and/or walk. There are prizes to be given to individuals according to the amount of money each raises. This is a good time to get some exer- cise, fellowship, and give a helping hand. Come help our youth help others with this deteriorative dis- ease. The youth will al- so be collecting aluminum cans and scrap that morning to raise funds for the youth budget so that one trip will be available for them this summer. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Bike/Walk-A-Thon is being held in place of Saturday Morning Kids Alive! usually held every third Saturday from 9:30-11 a.m. This program will resume next month. HEALTH SEMINAR Dr. Everette Thombs, Kings Mountain doctor, will lead a Health Awareness Seminar on "Cholesterol" Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at Bynum Chapel AME Zion Church. The public is invited. Bynum Chapel Church is spon- soring a seminar each fourth Tuesday night and the series of dis- cussions on health awareness are under direction of Dr. Thombs and his staff. "We appreciate Dr. Thombs and his staff for their concern and help in the Kings Mountain communi- ty," said Mrs. Annie R. Corry. GOSPEL SINGING There will be a gospel singing Sunday, May 28 at 7 p.m. at the LL Room Tabernacle, 107 ashington Street, Gastonia. Featured singers will be The Gospel Way of Columbia, S.C. Rev. James Greene, pastor, invites the public. SALE AND CAR WASH The Youth Life Corp Group will sponsor a hot dog sale and car wash Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at First Wesleyan Church in Kings Mountain. They will give a concert Sunday at 6 p.m. at First Wesleyan. The public is invited. Inspirations Are Still The Inspirations originated in the small town of Bryson City. This was in 1964 at Swain County High School. Three of the original members are still with the group, Martin Cooke, Archie Watkins and Troy Burns. Manager and pianist is Martin Cook, who was born and raised in Caney Fork near Cullowhee. He is a graduate of Western Carolina University with a Masters Degree in Math. Archie Watkins, has been the first tenor since their organization. He and his family live on Shoal Creek about six miles from Bryson City. Troy Burns started singing with The Inspirations when he was 14 years of age. He and his family live in Toot Hollow also near Bryson City. Troy sings lead. Christopher Smith, baritone, is from Benton, Tn. He started singing with The Inspirations in 1988. Mike Holcomb is the bass singer and has answered the call to preach, which he does at every op- portunity. He and his family live in the Deep Creek community near The Great Smoky Mountain National Park border. The Inspirations are an enthusi- astic, sincere, clean cut group of fundamental conservative Christian gentlemen with a desire and an ob- ROBINSON TO SING Holly Robinson of Bessemer City will be featured singer in two special worship services this week- end. Holly, granddaughter of Mrs. Doytt Falls of Kings Mountain, will sing at a gospel singing Saturday at 7 p.m. at Foursquare Gospel Church in Cherryville, and will sing during worship services Sunday at 11 a.m. at Union Road Church of God in Gastonia.
