Red Cross volunteers ask that area citizens make a special cffort to give blood during upcoming bloodmobiles. There will be a great need for blood during the summer months. The report for the last five bloodmobiles included: April 28 - Mauney Hosiery, Kings Mountain. Goal was 53 pints. Forty-eight units were col- lected and there were 12 first-time donors. May 1 - Reliance Electric, Kings Mountain. The goal was 65. Seventy-three units were collected and there were five first-time donors. May 1 - Reliance Electric, Kings Mountain. Before being elected to the epis- copacy, Dr. Jones was pastor of six congregations in Georgia, four of them in Atlanta. His pastorates were marked by intensive commu- nity, civic and ecumenical involve- ment. He served as President of the Christian Council of Metropolitan Atlanta, was a writer for various newspapers and religious journals, and his daily radio spots in Atlanta and Athens had a wide audience. He and his wife, the former Mildred Hawkins of Lebanon, Tn., now live in Charlotte where he is a member of the Downtown Rotary Club, and serves on the board of directors of the Metropolitan YM- CA, Boy Scout Council, and the United Way. He and Mrs. Jones have three married children and three grandchildren, all living in Atlanta. The Bishop's hobbies are bicycling, golf and spectator sports, and said his "great love is people.” Kiwanis From Page 1-A was in its 25th year, having been chartered in Detroit, Michigan, on Jan. 21, 1915. From an original membership total of 200 local citi- zens,it had grown and spread by 1940 to include better than 100,000 members in 2099 clubs scattered across the 48 states. It had also quickly moved across the border from Detroit into neighboring Canada, giving rise to Kiwanis International. It had been active in the Carolinas since 1920, by which ‘time there were seven clubs in ma- jor cities in the two states. ~The original Kings Mountain Kiwanis club was composed of 53 members on March 7, 1940. Plumley is a project manager with the 1606th Air Base Wing. His wife, Mary, is the daughter of John A. and Lorraine Felicione of 103 Avent Ferry Ave., Raleigh, N.C. He is a 1977 graduate of Kings Mountain High School. The cap- tain received a bachelor's degree in 1982 from North Carolina State University, Raleigh.
