Jessie Falls Howard, 75, of
Route 3, Box 12, Kings Mountain,
died May 12 at 6 a.m. at Kings
Mountain Hospital.
A native of Cleveland County,
she was the daughter of the late
Patrick and Nona Kiser Falls and
the wife of the late Roy Frank
Howard. She was a housewife and
a member of St. Matthew's
Lutheran Church. :
She is survived by one son,
Avery L. Howard of Kings
Mountain; two brothers, Jonah B.
Falls of Kings Mountain and Floyd
Falls of Shelby; one sister, Mrs.

Grace Elgin of Kings Mountain;
two grandchildren; and three great-
grandchildren.
Services were conducted Sunday
at 2 p.m. at St. Matthew's Lutheran
Church by the Rev. Harwood
Smith. Burial was in Mountain
Rest Cemetery.
BESSIE CARPENTER
Bessie Oliver Carpenter, 75, of
110 Blanton Street, died May 11 at
Cleveland Memorial Hospital.
A native of Cleveland County,
she was the daughter of the late
Thomas and Annie Miller Foster
and was retired from Woolworth
Department Store. Her first hus-
band was the late Glenn Pinson
Oliver. She was a member of
Piedmont Baptist Church.

Weekly Paper In Tennessee
Republic Newspapers, Inc., a
Farragut, Tennessee community
newspaper corporation, has pur-
chased The Jessamine Journal of
Nicholasville, Kentucky, according
to Nick W. Drewry, Vice-President
of Republic.
The Journal, owned and operat-
ed by Ed Easterly, III for the last
33 years, is a 5,100 paid circulation
weekly newspaper, located south of
Lexington.
Because of previous contractual
obligations on the part of the seller,
full transfer of the assets will not
occur until April 1, 1990. In the
meantime, Easterly will continue to
operate the paper much as he has
i mor than three decades, with
Y a staff changes anticipated.
The Jessamine Journal has been
published continuously in
Jessamine County since 1873. It is
the second oldest business in
Nicholasville.
Republic Newspapers also owns
nine other weekly newspapers and
maintains it's corporate headquar-
ters in Farragut, a suburb of
Knoxville, Tennessee.

KM Post Office Drop Off
Point for Tornado Items
The Kings Mountain Post Office
on East Gold Street has been desig-
nated by the Postal Service as a
drop-off point for non-perishable
food, clothing and other necessities
to be given to victims of the recent
tornadoes in other parts of the
county and state.
Randy Parker, a KM Postal em-
ployee, said the post office cannot
accept cash or checks. However, if
someone wants to send checks di-
rectly to the Post Office's relief
fund, they may send them to
Tornado Relief, 116 West Jones
Street, Raleigh, N.C. 27603.
The local post office will accept
items through June 16. A box will
be set up in the lobby to receive the
items.
Parker said if there are shut-ins
who would like to donate items but
cannot go by the post office, they
may call him at the post office and
he will arrange to pick the items
up.

BLACKSBURG, S. C. - Loyd
Homer Foster, 80, of Route 2,
Jumping Branch Road, Antioch
Community, died Monday, May
15, 1989, in the Upstate Carolina
Medical Center in Gaffney.
A native of Cherokee County, he
was the widower of Florence
" Godfrey Foster and son of the late
John and Kate Johnson Foster. He
was a member of Antioch Baptist
Church and was a retired employee
of Minette Mill in Grover.
He is survived by one son, Knox
W. Foster Sr. of Blacksburg; one
grandson, Winfred Foster of
Blacksburg; and one granddaugh-
ter, Miss Sandra Jean Foster of
Blacksburg.
Services were conducted at 3
p-m. Wednesday at Antioch Baptist
Church by the Rev. Vernon Craig.
Burial will be in the church ceme-
tery.

GROVER - Sady Harry
McCarter, 69, of Spruce Street,
died May 13 at 9 a.m. at Kings
Mountain Hospital.
A native of Grover, she was the
daughter of the late Benjamin
Andy and Bessie Howard Harry,
and was retired as caterer at
Cleveland Technical College. She
was a member of First Baptist
Church in Grover.
She is survived by her husband,

Ralph Edward Ware, 60, of 1625
Rhonda Drive, Gastonia, died May
12 at 5:45 a.m. at Gaston Memorial
Hospital.
A native of Kings Mountain, he
was the son of the late Crowder
and Oveida Hord Ware. He was re-
tired from Eastern Airlines and was
a member of Central United
Methodist Church, Moose Lodge,
the American Legion, and was a
Mason.
He is survived by his wife, Mary
Early Ware; one son, Boyce Ware
of Gastonia; and one brother,
James Ware of Las Vegas, Nev.
Graveside services were con-
ducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at
Mountain Rest Cemetery by the
