MRS. MITCHELL TODD GUFFEY
Early-Guffey
Second Baptist Church of Shelby was the setting May 20 for the wed-
ding of Laura Leigh Early and Mitchell Todd Guffey.
The couple pledged vows of the double-ring ceremony in a candle-
light service performed by the Rev. Kenneth K. Ashley Jr.
Mrs. Jo Ann Mauney was organist and Mrs. Teresa Edmonson was
soloist for the program of traditional music. Mrs. Edmonson sang "The
Wedding Song", "Nobody Loves Me Like You Do", "The Wedding
Prayer" and "We've Only Just Begun."
Bill Early escorted his daughter to the altar and gave her in marriage.
Best man for the bridegroom was his grandfather, Braxton Guffey.
The bride wore a formal length gown of white bridal satin and
Chantilly lace designed with bateau neckline with bishop sleeves and fit-
ted waist. The full, flowing skirt was trimmed in organza and Chantilly
lace and enhanced by chapel length train. A veil of bridal illusion was
attached to a crown of silk flowers and seed pearls.
Mrs. Kimberly Telle of Gainesville, Fla. was her sister's matron of
honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Heather Bostic of Polkville and Mrs.
Joanna Guthrie of Shelby.
The bride's niece, Angela Early of Kings Mountain, was miniature
bride and her niece, Hannah Rebecca Telle of Gainesville, Fla. was
flower girl. The ringbearer was the bride's nephew, Brad Early of Kings
Mountain.
Groomsmen were the bride's brother, Eric Early of Shelby and Chad
Farr, the bridegroom's cousin, of Forest City,
Mrs. Sue Farr and Mrs. Kay Nichols of Cocoa Beach, Fla. registered
guests. Mrs. Shirley Jones of Boiling Springs directed the wedding.
Ushers were Eric Early and Chad Farr.
The bride's parents and the bridegroom's mother hosted the reception
in the church fellowship hall after the ceremony which included the cut-
ting and serving of the wedding cake. Mrs. Madge Turner was the direc-
tor of the reception.
Bill and Rebecca Blanton Early of Shelby are parents of the bride
who is a 1983 graduate of Shelby High School and will receive a B. S.
degree in Elementary and Intermediate Education K-6 from Gardner-
Webb College in Boiling Springs in Fall 1989. She is the granddaughter
of Mrs. Bonnie Yates Blanton of Kings Mountain and the late Charles
Dewitt Blanton Sr. and the late Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Early of Kings
Mountain.
The bridegroom is the son of Mrs. Anne Guffey of Shelby and the late
David Stephen Guffey and is a 1982 graduate of Crest High School. He
attended Cleveland Community College and is employed by Freight
Liner, in Mount Holly. He is the grandson of Mrs. Lula Mae Humphries
and Mr. and Mrs. Braxton Guffey of Cliffside.
After a wedding trip to Surfside Beach, the newlyweds are at home at
2810 Elizabeth Avenue in Shelby.
The bridegroom's mother hosted the rehearsal dinner Friday night in
the Fellowship Hall of Second Baptist Church for the two families,
friends and out-of-town wedding guests.
MR. AND MRS. ANDERSON MITCHELL CHURCH III
Evans-Church
Patricia Bess Evans and Anderson Mitchell Church III were united in
marriage Saturday, April 22, at William J. Pharr Memorial Chapel in
McAdenville.
Rev. Billy Miller officiated at the 4 p.m. ceremony.
Mindy Church was ringbearer and Leslie Church was flower girl.
They are granddaughters of the bridegroom.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Bess of Kings
Mountain. She is employed by the N. C. Department of Commerce at
the North Carolina Welcome Center.
The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Church of North
Wilkesboro. He is employed by Stowe-Pharr Mills of McAdenville as an
environmental engineer.
Following a cruise to the Bahamas, the couple are at home in Kings
Mountain.

Honlee Chapel in Boiling Springs was setting for the May 20 wedding
uniting Deborah Kay Green and Brian Scott Payne in marriage.
The Rev. Sam Snyder officiated at the double-ring 10 a.m. ceremony.
Billy Mason was organist for the program of traditional music.
The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a long, formal wed-
ding gown of white bridal satin featuring puff sleeves and long train en-
hanced with sequins and seed pearls. Her camelot cap was of seed
pearls, sequins and baby's breath and was attached to a fingertip length
veil of illusion. She carried a summer bouquet of pink and blue flowers.
Allen Welch was person-of-honor. Best man for the bridegroom was
John C. Elmore Jr. of Greensboro.
Bridal attendants were Lisa House of Charlotte, Robin Hamilton of
Gastonia, Sandra Cain of Grover and Cindy Brady of Cherryville.
Sharon Cain of Grover was flower girl and trainbearers were Chrystal
Birch of Lattimore and Jay Chapman of Kings Mountain.
The bridal attendants wore long formals of pink and blue taffeta de-
signed along Victorian lines and ‘carried pink and blue bouquets. The
flower girl was dressed in pink and carried a basket of flower petals.
Paulette Birch of Lattimore kept the register.
Ushers were Mike Payne of Cleveland, Ohio and Michael Green of
Kings Mountain, brothers of the bride; Ron Payne of Charlotte, father of
the bridegroom, and John C. Elmore Jr. of Greensboro.
The bride's parents entertained after the ceremony at a garden recep-
tion. The bride's table in the chapel reception hall was centered with a
pink and blue pedestal cake which featured a fountain. The cake was
cut and served with punch and party refreshments.
Mr. and Mrs. William H. Green of Kings Mountain are parents of the
bride who is a 1985 graduate of Kings Mountain Senior High School
and attended Gaston College and UNCC.
The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ron Payne of Charlotte.
He was graduated from East Mecklenburg High School in 1984 and at-
tended Winthrop College. He is employed as manager of Pets, Plants &
Things of Rock Hill, S. C.
The newlyweds have returned from a trip to Myrtle Beach, S. C. and
are residing in Fort Mill, South Carolina.

LISA MARCELLE AUSTIN
ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED-Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Austin of
Morganton announce the engagement of their daughter, Lisa Marcelle,
to Stephen Boyd Schultz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Boyd F. Schultz of
Rockingham. The bride-elect's godparents are Mr. and Mrs. William
Hiley Davis of Kings Mountain. Miss Austin received her B. S. degree
from Appalachian State University in 1987 where she was a sister of
Kappa Delta Sorority. She has completed the requirements for a Master
of Arts degree in Industrial/Organization Psychology at ASU. Schultz
received his B.S.degree from ASU in 1986 and was a shotputter for
ASU's track and field teams. He is a teacher and coach in Richmond
County Schools in Rockingham. The wedding will take place July 22 in
Mount Olive Baptist Church at Morganton.

ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED-Mr. and Mrs. Shuford K. Peeler
Jr. of Kings Mountain announce the engagement of their daughter,
Dorothy Lynn Peeler, to Michael Scott Mosier, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Chester Mosier of Indianapolis, Indiana. Miss Peeler is the granddaugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. James E. White Sr. of Kings Mountain and Shuford
K. Peeler Sr. of Charlotte. She graduated from Clemson University and
has done graduate work at the University of Missouri in Kansas City.
She is employed as a sales representative by the John H. Harland
Company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Mr, Mosier graduated from Ball
State University at Muncie, Indiana and is employed as a Regional Sales
Director by Association Life Insurance Company in Milwaukee,
Wisconsin. The wedding will take place J uly 29 in First Baptist Church
in Kings Mountain.
LEISA DIANN DARNELL
ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED-Mr. and Mrs. Ted Darnell of
Kings Mountain announce the engagement of their daughter, Leisa
Diann, to David D. A. Grant, son of Mrs. Nan Jean Grant of Kings
Mountain and Gerald E. Grant of Norwood, Massachusetts. The bride-
elect is a graduate of Kings Mountain Senior High School and works at
Anvil Knitwear. The bridegroom-to-be is a graduate of Kings Mountain
Senior High School, is employed by Anvil Knitwear and is a member of
the North Carolina National Guard. A September 16 wedding is
planned.
