Congratulations to our 1989 high school graduates, Kevin Smith, son of Joan and Derriel Smith, and Stormy Neal, daughter of Marie Neal. Steve, You're A Fine Fello Being on vacation threw me be- hind on home news and it was only through an article written to the Editor of the Herald that I learned my article published on Wednesday, May 17, concerning Steve Barrett had been greatly mis- understood. Therefore, I feel an apology to Steve is in order. The article was written as a "joke or roast” and was prompted by Steve's teasing that I never men- tioned his birthday in "my ole col- umn”. Knowing the type personali- ty Steve has and the way he likes to tease and given the slant on which I wrote the article I just nev- er dreamed it would be taken seri- ously. As it turns out I could never have been more wrong and the in- tended "joke" was not very funny to Steve. In reality, Steve is a very strong personality in our church, the source of much laughter and a wealth of beautiful music as he sings for us from week to week. Hi is very dedicated and attends the church faithfully. He is well liked among our members and is indeed unique, in a pleasant way. I have apologized privately to Steve but I felt since the article was public the apology should be also. I would also like to thank Steve's friends at work for their article in support of him and for calling to my attention my ineptness. I have pinned the article to my board above my desk so that I will never forget to be more careful in the way I use my words. Sunday afternoon was a very special day for Millard and Hester Putnam at our church. The Gleaners Class, who have "adopt- ed" Mr. and Mrs. Putnam as "par- ents" since the Putnam's have no children, sponsored a 57th anniver- sary party for them. The Putnams have been faithful members of the church for many years and Millard still plays bass guitar for us when he is able.
