ARTHUR WILLIS
Funeral services for Arthur
Willis, 86, of Winnsboro, S.C.,
who died Saturday at Richland
County Hospital, were conducted
Monday at 3 p.m. at Church of The
Nazarene in Winnsboro.
He was a native of Bessemer
City, son of the late Mrs. Frances
Willis and was retired from
Uniroyal Corporation. He was a
member of The Church of
Nazarene in Winnsboro.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs.
Blanche Sharp Willis of the home;
sons, Gerald Willis of Columbia, S.
C. and Darrell Willis of West
Columbia, S. C.; brother, Gilbert
Willis of Kings Mountain; sisters,
Mrs. Neva Phillips of Kings
Mountain and Mrs. Mae Looper
and Mrs. Lottie Brown, both of
Gastonia; four grandchildren and
one great-grandchild.

Funeral services for Brian Keith
Rogers, 17, of 1119 Groves St.,
who died Sunday, will be conduct-
ed Thursday at 4 p.m. at Mount
Zion Baptist Church by his pastor,
Rev. C. A. Feemster, interment fol-
lowing in Mountain Rest
Cemetery.
He was the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Jessie Gill of Kings Mountain and
Calvin Wilkie of Shelby and was a
junior student at Kings Mountain
Senior High School.
Surviving, in addition to his par-
ents, are his brother, Darrius
Jeffries; sisters, Annika Jeffries,
Alinda Gill and Alonda Gill, all of
the home; five stepsisters, three
stepbrothers, and grandparents,
Rosa Nell Logan, Mr. and Mrs.
June Wilkie of Forest City and Joe
Thomas Gill of St. Petersburg, Fla.
Pallbearers will be Jamie
Anderson, Ricko Strong, Darrius
Jefferies, Mark Howard, Joe Harris
and John Whiten.
Flower bearers will be Ginger
Brooks, Tammy Corry, Keisha
Twitty, Lorie Gill, Alonda Gill and
Annika Jeffries.
The family will receive friends
Wednesday night from 7 to 8 p.m.
at Mount Zion Baptist Church.

of 313 Walker Street, Kings
Mountain, died June 5 at
Woodlands Skilled Nursing Center.

years of service as a roping tender

S.C., Toby Stidham of Cherryville,

Stidham of Shelby; a stepson, Nick

S.C.; two daughters, Aldie Stacy of
DeLean, Fla., and Virginia Smith
of Baltimore; two brothers, H.B.
Clark of Gastonia and Thurman
Clark of Clover, S.C.; two sisters,
Myrtle Ford of Gastonia and Nan
Todd of California; 21 grandchil-
dren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted
Thursday at 4 p.m. at Mount Zion
Baptist Church by the Rev. Carl
Green. The body will be placed in
the church at 3:30. Burial will be in
the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends
from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Lutz-
Austell Funeral Home.

Swimming lessons get underway

Tela Matilda McDonald, 83, of
119 North City Street, Kings
Mountain, died Friday, June 2 at
Kings Mountain Hospital.
A native of Haywood County,
she was the daughter of the late
Robert and Rosetta Arrington
McDonald.
Survivors include nieces and
nephews.
Services were conducted Sunday
at 3 p.m. at First Wesleyan Church
in Bessemer City by the Rev. Dick
Whitener. Burial was in Bessemer
City Memorial Cemetery.
PAULINE ROBINSON
GROVER - Pauline Robinson,
71, of Route 1, died Friday, June 2
at Cleveland Memorial Hospital.
A native of Planfield, N.J., she
was the daughter of the late John
and Pauline Staats. She was a
homemaker and member of
Kingdom Hall Jehovah's Witness
Church.
She is survived by her husband,
John Robinson; a son, Walter Terry
of Wall Township, N.J.; two
daughters, Barbara Gibbons and
Alberta Klien of Wall Township,
N.J.; 19 grandchildren; and 11
great-grandchildren.
Services were conducted
Monday at 11 a.m. at Harris
Chapel by Ralph Queen. Burial
was in Grover Cemetery.
GLEN CROCKER
GREENSBORO- Glen Crocker,
91, of Market Street, died Tuesday,
May 30, at John Unstead Hospital
in Butner.
A former resident of Kings
Mountain, he was the son of the
late Jim and Mary Elizabeth
Crocker.
He is survived by two sons, Carl
Crocker of Kings Mountain and
Herman Crocker of Camden, N.J.;
one daughter, Geraldine Brown of
Camden; 16 grandchildren; and 41
great-grandchildren.
Services were conducted
Saturday at 2 p.m.at Mount Zion
Baptist Church in Kings Mountain
by the Rev. C.A. Feemster. Burial
was in Mount Olive Memorial
Park.
ESTELLE HARRY
GROVER - Estelle Eugenia
Johnson Harry, 76, of Lakeside
Acres, died Wednesday, May 31, at
Cleveland Memorial Hospital. ;
A Pike Road, Alabama, native;
Oscar and Emma McGowan
Johnson, and wife of the late
Charles Franklin Harry Jr. She was
a homemaker and member of
Shiloh Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by three sons,
James A. Harry of Kings Mountain
and Oscar Johnson Harry and
Charles F. Harry III of Shelby; one
daughter, Jean H. Francis of
Grover; and 11 grandchildren.
Services were conducted Friday
at 2 p.m. at Shiloh Presbyterian
Church by the Rev. Harold
Hutchison and Dr. George Rolling.
Entombment was in Harry
Mausoleum in Grover Cemetery.

RETIRING FROM PARKDALE MILLS-Bessie Ross Anderson is

and is considered one of the plant's
best and top spinning hands.
Now that's she's retiring,
Anderson said she plans to resume
her hobbies of crocheting and
quilting and put her feet up and
watch the soap operas on televi-
sion.
Anderson's husband, Arthur
Anderson, retired some years ago
after 20 years service with
Parkdale.
Mrs. Anderson has worked in
both the Winding and Spinning
Departments at Parkdale and
Spinning overseer Gary Robinson
credits her as an employee who
had "done a little bit of everything
and does it well."
Mrs. Anderson was honored by
her fellow workers at a plant retire-
ment party and received an en-
graved silver platter. Employees
cut and served a decorated cake.

the death of his sister, Aurellia
Cogdell, who died in Woodruff, S.
C. May 31 and to the family of J.
W. Barnes who died last
Wednesday in Gaston Memorial
Hospital. Mr. Barnes had been cus-
todian for many years at Oak View.
Christian sympathy is extended to
the family of Joe Farris who died
Sunday. Mr. Farris was a former
deacon, trustee and faithful mem-
ber. "Mr. Joe" died at age 86.
Young at Heart club will visit
Carolina Pottery Wednesday and
have lunch.
Congratulations to Cary
Caldwell and Wesley Caldwell,
children of Mr. and Mrs. David
Caldwell. Cary received the sports-
manship and outstanding achieve-
-ment award in Mrs. Ann Byers'
‘third grade class at Grover School
and was on the A-B honor roll.
Wesley was also listed on the A-B
honor roll as a student of Sandy
Shaffer.
Oak View will hold the annual

Mrs. Anderson Retires
From Parkdale Mills
Mountain, Mrs. Anderson is the i
daughter of the late E. V. and
Amanda Conner Ross. She attend-
ed the Kings Mountain Schools
and went to work in the mill 38 :
years ago, retiring on May 19. The
Andersons, who reside at 700
Sterling Drive, are parents of three
children, Betty Ivey, Leonard
Anderson and Mickey Dean
Anderson, all of Kings Mountain.
They have two grandchildren, Lisa
Ivey, a student at Western Carolina
University, and Tina Anderson,
who attends Gaston College and a
Shelby beautician.
The Andersons are active in
Resurrection Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Anderson is considering
doing some part-time work at
Parkdale next year but now she is
content to be at home with her
family and enjoy a pastime, watch-
ing the soap operas. "I hope I don't
get hooked on soap operas be-
cause I plan to do some part time
work," she laughed.
