This popular group is spirit- filled and very enthusiastic about their singing. If you have ever been in concert with them, then you know exactly what I am talking about. Jimmy Thompson of WGGS Channel 16 in Greenville was dis- cussing the popularity of the video which features their most popular song, "God On The Mountain." He said, "You just know these folks are for real, for you can feel the anointing of the: Lord on their singing." This past year The McKameys were nominated in The Music City News Awards for "Group Of The Year." They have had nominations in the Singing News Fan Awards for Queen of Gospel Music, Favorite Alto, Favorite Soprano, Favorite Artist and Favorite Song. One of the most recent accomplish- ments is a nomination for a DOVE Award for "God On The Mountain” for Southern Gospel Song Of The Year for 1989. They have also had three number 1 songs in the nation according to The Singing News magazine. "Who Put The Tears In The Eyes Of The Lamb," "Getting Used To The Dark," and the above mentioned "God On The Mountain." The McKameys are based out of Clinton, Tennessee, which is about 18 miles north of Knoxville. They have been singing approximately thirty-two years. Ruben Bean is their manager/bass singer. According to Ruben, he puts God first in every decision and every move that is made. He handles the bookings, manages the group and does most of the bus driving. Peggie McKamey Bean is mar- ried to Ruben. She is a very dedi- cated Christian lady. Peggie sings lead and sometimes alto with the | Betty Goodson group. She has been nominated in The Singing News Fan Awards for "Queen Of Gospel Music" and Favorite Female Singer in The Voice Magazine Awards. She is loved by people everywhere she goes. Connie Powell is the soprano and the daughter of Ruben and Peggie. She has been singing with the McKameys since 1972. Connie loves the Lord and enjoys singing and traveling for Him. She works in the office with her father and their secretary, helping with the mail that is received daily. She has been nominated for Favorite Soprano in The Singing News. Bonnie White joined the McKameys in October of 1988. She comes from Benton, Tennessee, and lives there with her parents, Rev. and Mrs. Beecher White. She formerly sang with a local group. Their band members are Roger Fortner from Bryson City, who plays piano and keyboards. Ricky Francis from Shreveport, Louisiana, who plays the bass gui- tar.
