| | i LY ees BENJAMIN RUFFIN Ruffin To Speak At Banquet Benjamin S. Ruffin, Director of Public Affairs for RJR Nabisco, Inc. will be the keynote speaker for the fourth annual membership ban- quet sponsored by the Cleveland County Business and Professional Association. The Banquet will be held Tuesday, June 13 at the new student activity center at Cleveland Community College in Shelby. The program will begin at 7 p.m. prior to joining RJR Nabisco. Ruffin was vice president for NC Mutual Life Insurance. He also served as spe- cial assistant to former NC Governor, Jim Hunt. Ruffin is the recipient of numerous awards and achievements. He serves on several boards and organizations. CCBP was established in 1985 as a vehicle to promote economic development and awareness. The organization has been active in sponsoring several programs on business development, professional seminars, youth awareness work- shop, bloodmobile drive, and has published a minority business di- rectory. The program will serve as the formal installation of officers and recognition of the minority busi- ness of the year award. Other pro- gram participants will include state and local elected officials. The banquet program is open to the public. MARVIN CHAPPELL Chappell Awarded Scholarship City Treasurer Marvin Chappell has won a $4,000 scholarship after submitting the winning essay on "The importance and benefits from Cable Television College courses at home." : He submitted the essay to Jones Intercable of Kings Mountain and was notified by Rob Bridges that he has received $1,000 credit per year for the next four years from Mind Extension University, Englewood, Colorado. Chappell will tape the course in- struction and study at home via ca- ble television on his off-work hours. He will pursue a master's in accounting. Mind Extension University is af- filiated with Colorado State University, Washington State University, Oklahoma University and Kansas City State University. Chappell joined the City of Kings Mountain staff two years ago. : Tennis Tourney Set In Shelby The annual Cancer Fund Tennis Tournament will be played June 16-18 at the Shelby High courts. There will be A, B, and C divi- sions in women's singles, men's singles and men's and women's doubles, and A and B divisions in mixed doubles.
