RUSSELL HINTON SHELBY - Rev. Russell Hinton, former pastor of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Kings Mountain, died June 23 at Pleasant Valley Hospital in Point Pleasant, W. Va., as a re- sult of an automobile accident. Rev. Hinton, 64, was a resident of West Double Shoals Road in Shelby and was pastor of Double Shoals Baptist Church. A Rocky Mount native, he was the son of Charlie Russell Hinton of Wallace, and Willie Rivenvark Jones of Carrollton, Va. Other survivors include his wife, Lillie McAlhaney Hinton of the home; one son, Thomas Russell Hinton of Apex; two daughters, Mrs. Karen Caldwell of Winston- Salem and Mrs. Sheila Duke of Norwood; three sisters, Ms. Mary H. Strange of Rocky Mount, Mrs. Doris Proctor of Rocky Mount and Mrs. Margaret Brantley of Landsing, Kan.; and three grand- children. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Pastor's Group of the Kings Mountain Baptist Association, and at one time served as chaplain for the Oak Grove and Ranlo fire departments. He served on various committees in the associations he served during his ministry. He was assistant pastor at Leaksville First Baptist (now Eden, N.C.), and pastor of Osborn Mission in Eden, Providence Baptist at Stoneville, Bear Marsh Baptist wn Olive, Calvary ‘Baptist W% J Hamlet, Conrad Memorial Baptist at High Point, Oak Grove Baptist in Kings Mountain, Fraley Memorial Baptist in Gastonia, and Double Shoals Baptist in Shelby, which he had served since 1984. He served as minister of education at North Main Street Baptist Church in High Point. Graveside services were con- ducted Monday at 3 p.m. at Double Shoals Baptist Church by the Rev. Cline Borders and the Rev. C.O. Green. Memorials may be made to Double Shoals Baptist Church, Route 5, Shelby, 28150. J.W. RIDDLE Funeral services for John Wesley Riddle, 74, of 2420 NE 9th Terrace, Pompano Beach, Fla., for- merly of Kings Mountain, were conducted Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church. Rev. Frank Gordon officiated and interment was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. Mr. Riddle was a native of Kings Mountain, son of the late John and Mary Etta Clark Riddle. He was a retired textile employee. He was twice married: to the late Idelle Ellison Riddle and to Anna Newark Riddle, who survives. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three stepsons, James Ayers, Mason Ayers and Bruce Ayers, all of Pompano Beach, Fla., two stepdaughters, Mrs. Cora Smith, Mrs. Paula Von Mosch of Pompano Beach; one daughter, Mrs. . Doris Spencer of Hendersonville; one brother, Harold Riddle of Kings Mountain; two sisters, Mrs. Carrie Martin of Kings Mountain and Mrs. Margaret Combs of Pompano Beach; 16 grandchildren; two great-grand- children and one great-great grand- child. GEORGE P. CLARY CRAMERTON - George P. Clary, 74, of 221 Market Street, died June 26 at Gaston Memorial Hospital. A native of Gaffney, S.C., he was the son of the late Thomas and Susie Dover Clary and husband of the late Ruth Collins Clary. He was a retired textile worker and a World War II veteran. He is survived by three sons, W.T. Clary of Kings Mountain, Fred Clary of Gastonia and Charles Clary of Bessemer City; four daughters, Maybelline Merck of Tryon, Christine Broome of Bessemer City, Juanita Ellison of Suffolk, Va., and Annie Ruth Oliver of Kings Mountain; a sister, Mary Lee Coffee of Grover; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grand- children. Services will be conducted at 4 p.m. today at First Church of the Nazarene in Kings Mountain. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery. REV. ROY LOCKRIDGE Funeral services for Rev. Roy Hunter Lockridge, 62, of 108 Beth Page Road, Kannapolis, who died June 21 at home, were conducted Friday at 11 a.m. at Midway United Methodist Church. Graveside services were held at Mountain Rest Cemetery. Officiating were Rev. William R. Brantley and Rev. Worth Sweet. Honorary pallbearers were minis- ters of the Western Conference of the United Methodist Church. Born Sept. 2, 1926 in Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Roy Hunter Lockridge Sr. and is survived by his mother, Carrie Hope Lockridge Baker of Mooresville, in addition to his wife, Mrs. Ida Barnes Lockridge; a daughter, Mrs. Sharon Shirah of West Columbia, S.C., a son, Timothy Lockridge of Charleston, S.C, a sister, Mrs. Vernon Padgett of Concord and a grandchild. Lockridge graduated from Appalachian State University and pastor's school at Duke University. He was, minister at Midway United Methodist Church in Kannapolis and had served at Methodist charges all over the the state of North Carolina. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy in World War II. JAMES BYERS GROVER - James Caldwell Byers, 78 of Linden Street, died Thursday, June 22, at Cleveland Memorial Hospital. A native of Cherokee County, S.C., he was the son of the late Jonathan and Mary Foster Byers, and was married to the late Annie Belle Beam Byers. He was a re- tired textile employee and member of First Baptist Church and the Grover Lions Club. He is survived by his wife, Mabel Webber Byers of Grover; one daughter, Sybil Hardin of New Port Richey, Fla.; one sister, Louise White of Forest City; two grand- children; and three great-grandchil- dren. Services were conducted Saturday at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church by Dr. Paul Sorrells and Dr. Vann Murrell. Burial was in Grover Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the building fund of First Baptist Church, Grover, N.C. 28073. DOROTHY B. MULL Dorothy Bennett Mull, 68, of 1375 Grover Road, Kings Mountain, died June 22 at Gaston Memorial Hospital. A native of Kings Mountain, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Mary Wright Bennett and wife of the late Jack T. Mull. She is survived by two sons, David Chavis of Gastonia and Michael Mull of Kings Mountain; a daughter, Debbie Mathis of Peggy's Restaurant will close on Saturday, July 1 and re-open on Monday, July 10. Dandridge, Tn.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A private funeral service was held. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. JOY H. HOLCOMB CLIFFSIDE - Joy Hutto Holcomb, 62, of Highway 120, died June 21 at Cleveland Memorial Hospital. A Gastonia native, she was the daughter of the late Henry Lee and Naomi Litton Hutto and was a member of High Shoals Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Ben A. Holcomb; three sons, Von Holcomb of Palm Harbor, Fla., and Terry Holcomb and Gary Holcomb of Cliffside; a daughter, Sheila McCurry of Shelby; three brothers, Henry Lee Hutto of Blacksburg, S.C., Harold Hutto of Kings Mountain and Carol Hutto of Charlotte; three sisters, Nell Dotson of Cliffside, and Billie Sellers and Mrs. Toy Smith of Kings Mountain; and three grand- children. Services wer conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. ac High Shoals Baptist Church by the Rev. J. Oliver. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery, Kings Mountain. Grover Industries will be closed the full week of Crime Of The Week The Kings Mountain Police Department, through crime stop- pers, is seeking information regard- ing a breaking entering and larceny that occurred at 1009 Linwood Road on Wednesday, May 24, be- tween the hours of 11:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Harold Lloyd Upton reported to the Kings Mountain Police Department that person or persons unknown had entered his residence by breaking out a window in the kitchen and entering. Missing from the house was reported a VCR at a value of $600. An assortment of old money such as $1.00 silver cer- tificates and some $2.00 bills with consecutive serial numbers. An as- sortment of jewelry, were also tak- en, the total amount reported stolen was $4,923.00.
