Cleveland Memorial Is Accepting Applications
Cleveland Memorial Hospital in
Shelby is accepting applications
for its scholarship-loan
program.The program provides fi-
nancial support to students enrolled
in nursing and other allied health
programs and who are interested in
employment at Cleveland
Memorial Hospital upon gradua-
tion.
The deadline for applications is
Wednesday, July 19. Applications
and brochure about the program
are available from the hospital's
Personnel Office,
This is the second year the pro-
gram has been funded by the hos-
pital. Last year the hospital award-
ed scholarships to 13 students
enrolled in programs that included
nursing, radiologic technology, res-
piratory therapy, pharmacy and nu-
clear medicine.
"We are pleased to provide in-
centives for those interested in pur-
suing a health career," said hospital
President Curtis Copenhaver. "The
nursing profession and other health
related professions are very de-
manding occupations. But, in hu-
man terms, they are also among the
most rewarding, providing count-
less opportunities each day for
helping others lead healthier, hap-
pier lives."
The scholarship-loan funds will
assist in covering the cost of tuition
and some books for students en-
rolling in two-year or one-year
nursing and other allied health ca-
TET programs.
Students who are seeking bac-
calaureate degrees are also consid-
ered for funding if they are in the
clinical portion of their studies.
The scholarship loans will be for-
given for those recipients who
choose employment at Cleveland
Memorial Hospital for a given pe-
riod of time following graduation.
The scholarship loans will be
available beginning this fall.
Applications may be obtained from
the Personnel Department at
Cleveland Memorial Hospital.
The program is part of the hospi-
tal's on-going efforts to increase
the pool of nurses and other key
health care workers in the face of
growing shortages in the health
professions both nationwide and in
North Carolina.
A similar scholarship-loan pro-
gram was established two years
ago for nursing students enrolled at
Gardner-Webb College in Boiling
Springs.
