ing.

members of the congregation at a
July 4th picnic and celebration at
their home.

Wendy Te
Their special style of music and
humor have won Wendy Bagwell
and The-Sunliters world wide ac-
claim as well as many distin-
guished awards, including the gold
"Addy" and the silver and bronze
"Telly" awards for the "Best TV
Commercial of the Year" in their
"Snapback with Stanback" ad cam-
paign, a national award from
Advertising Age. Also, Wendy
won the prestigious "Entertainer of
the Year" award at the 1986
National Quartet Convention held
in Nashville, Tennessee.
Wendy Bagwell is an ex-Marine
and a successful businessman who
is a natural comedian. He is at best
while "spinning his yarns" about
unusual and amusing situations the
group experiences in their interna-
tional travels. According to him,
"Other entertainers experience
some of these same situations but
they just have more sense than to
get on stage and tell about them."
Not so with with Wendy! His ren-
ditions of stories from childhood
and the groups experiences as they
travel have captured the hearts and
tickled the funny bones of millions
of people around the world.
Jerri Morrison and Jan Buckner
. are the ladies whose voices blend
0 beautifully together. Jerri plays
tambourine and other percussion
instruments. She has been with
Wendy for about 31 years. Jan
came along about three years later.

struments. She has received the
Southern Gospel Music
Association Female Vocalist of the
Year Award on two separate occa-
sions. She and Wendy write or ar-
range all of the music for the
group.
Matt Mundy and Kevin
Williams complete the band, and
together, play seven different in-
struments.
The group had been singing to-
gether for about 10 years and were
recording for RCA when the
biggest milestone in their career
came about, and it was a first for
any gospel group. Marvin Norcross
(founder of Canaan Records) was
always coming to their concerts
and he loved the story Wendy told
about the time the group was invit-
ed to sing at a church that handled
Mike Ledford. Charles Wilson was
bus driver and Kathy Murgita,
Susan Belt, Lillian Boheler,
Frances Leonard, Don Hanks and
Kristina Krieger directed a pro-
gram of arts and crafts.
First Baptist young people are
joining in the Kingdom 1989 trip
to Orlando, Fla. this month.
Hospice training is underway on
every Monday night through Aug.
28 at Shelby Chamber of
Commerce, 100 S. Lafayette St.,
Shelby. Volunteers are needed from
Kings Mountain since a large num-
ber of patients live in this area.
Attendance at the training classes,
from 7 until 9 p.m., doesn't obli-
gate one to be a volunteer. Contact
June Lee for more information.
Christian sympathy is extended
to the family of Ruby Greene, to
the family of Peggy Adams and to
Lillian Boheler at the death of her
nephew, Timothy Deece.

poisonous rattlesnakes as a part of
their services. Wendy never could
get the powers-that-be at RCA ex-
cited enough to record the humor-
ous tale. When the RCA contract
expired, the group signed with
Norcross' Canaan label and record-
ed "Here Come The Rattlesnakes."
The rest is history.
The album hit the nation's coun-
try charts and The Sunliters are the
only singers in their field to gross
over a million and win a Gold
Record for the "Rattlesnakes" al-
bum. From the Southern Gospel
Music Association they have re-
ceived the Pioneer Award, The al-
bum o the Year Award in 19861 and
in 1984 Wendy was inducted into
the Hall of Fame.
I received a letter from Wendy
recently and he gave me an update -
on the group. He said they had just
finished a two day concert at
Opryland where they broke all
records with six thousand people in
attendance each day. He also men-
tioned that their latest video, "The
Snakes and Old Ralph Bennett" is
a top seller. "What's That Name" is
the title of their latest album.
