) Obituaries JACK DOTY NICELAND, Fla. - Jack H. Doty, 59, died Saturday, July 8, in Elgin Air Force Base Hospital. A Cleveland County native, he was the son of the late J.F. and Bertha Shepard Doty. He was re- tired after 22 years of service in the U.S. Air Force. He is survived by his wife, Ruby Scanlon Doty; one son, Jack H. Doty Jr. of Niceland; three daugh- ters Susann Clary of Niceland, Brenda McCarty of Germany and Debie Neare of Texas; his step- mother, Marie H. Doty of Shelby; two brothers. J.D. Doty of Shelby and Charles Doty of Newton; two sisters, Margaret McSwain of Kings Mountain and Lucille Lee of Shelby; and 13 grandchildren. Services were conducted Wednesday at Little Chapel Funeral Home in Walton Beach. Burial was in National Cemetery in Pensacola. JESSE HEAVNER CHERRY VILLE - Jesse Burlen Heavner, 77, of 602 South Styres Street, died Saturday, July 8, at Kings Mountain Hospital. A Gaston County native, he was the son of the late Acie Lee and Ellen Hallman Heavner. He was married to the late Cleo Whitstine Heavner and was a retired carpen- ter. He is survived by one brother, Pete Heavner of Kings Mountain; and four sisters, Violet Ledwell, Nell Houser, Lorene Truitt and Mary Heavner, all of Cherryville. Services were conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Carpenter's Funeral Home by the Rev. Odus Shelton and the Rev. H.S. Scruggs. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery in Kings Mountain, ANNIE HESTER CHERRYVILLE - Annie B. Hester, 75, of 317 North Cherry Street, died Sunday, July 9, in Newton. A Gaston County native, she was the daughter of the late Matthew and Ida Whitworth and wife of the late John C. Hester. She was a retired winder at Burlington Rhyne Houser plant. She is survived by two sons, Steve Hester and Hillard Hester of Kings Mountain; two daughters, Shirley Gales and Brenda Pruitt of Newton; one brother, Eugene Whitworth of Cherryville; three sisters, Gladys Ledbetter, and Pre nachildren; even great- grandchildren. oi Services were conducted Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. I.B. Phillips and the Rev. J.D. Grasty. Burial was in City Memorial Cemetery. JOYCE F. PHIFER Funeral services for Mrs. Joyce Foster Phifer, 63, of Phifer Road, who died July 10 at Charlotte Memorial Hospital, were conduct- ed Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Harris Chapel. Rev. Lyn Sorrells officiated, and interment was in El Bethel Cemetery. A native of Kings Mountain, she was the daughter of the late Sarah “C. Cansler and Joe B. Foster and was widow of William Sanford Phifer. She was a former employee of L&L Hosiery. She was also a former employee of the old Kings Mountain Drug Store in Kings Mountain. She was a member of El Bethel United Methodist Church. Surviving are two sons, Joseph Martin Phifer of Kings Mountain and William (Sandy) Phifer of North Wilkesboro; one brother, Dick Foster of Newberry, S.C. and four grandchildren. Mr. Sloan, a retired custodian with the State Highway Department in Shelby, was born in Hickory, son of the late Ike and Ada Sloan. He was a member of Pentecostal Holiness Church in Shelby. Survivors are his wife, Lula; sons, Leroy Sloan of Gastonia, Will Sloan, Eddie Sloan, both of Shelby, Sgt. A native of Kings Mountain, he was the son of the late Oscar Benjamin and Ouder Randall Green. He was husband of the late ° Bertha Morris Green and a retired textile employee. He was a veteran of World War II. Surviving are his son, Herman Green of Kings Mountain; his .daughter, Mrs. Janice Proctor of Kings Mountain; three brothers, Odus Green, Donald Green and Randall Green, -all of Kings Mountain; three sisters, Mrs. Virginia Grigg of Kings Mountain, Mrs. Flo Beverly of Kings Mountain and Mrs. Margaret Neal of Gastonia; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, OLIVER BRIDGES Funeral services for Oliver Bright Bridges, 75, of Route 3 Chestnut Ridge Church Road, who died July 8 at Cleveland Memorial Hospital, were conducted Sunday at 4 p.m. at Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church of which he was a member. . Kenneth George, interment in Mountain Rest Cemetery. A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Franklin and Laura Amelia Lawing Ballard. She was a retired textile employee and a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
