Page 2A-THE KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Thursday, July 27, 1989 [ Obituaries | | MAE ELLEN BURRIS ASHEBORO-Funeral services for Miss Mae Ellen Burris, 61, of 942 South Cox St., who died Sunday at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, were conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Galilee United Methodist Church in Kings Mountain. Rev. Dewey Smith officiated, and interment was in Galilee- Adams Chapel Church Cemetery in Kings Mountain. A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Esker and Mary Boyce Burris. A graduate of Kings Mountain's Compact High School, she earned her nursing degree at the former Good Samaritan Hospital in Charlotte. She was a nurse for 30 years at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro. A member of Galilee United Methodist Church, she attended St. Luke's United Methodist Church and was an usher and community steward. She was also a member of St. Mary's Grand Chapter No. 10, Order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Ruth Burris Adams of Kings Mountain, The family is at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sammy Adams, Lake Montonia Road. ¥ “City From Page 1-A Adjustment. OLLIE SCISM Funeral services for Miss Ollie Mae Scism, 80, of Route 5, who died Sunday morning at home, were conducted Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Patterson Grove Baptist Church of which she was a member. Her pastor, Rev. Richard Plyler, assisted by Dr. Eric Faust, officiat- ed at the service and interment was in Patterson Grove Cemetery. A native of Cleveland County, Miss Scism was the daughter of the late William Albert and Mary Ellen Wright Scism. She is survived by her brother, Furman Scism, of Kings Mountain. Harris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. DAVID GOODWIN Funeral services for David Goodwin, 64, of Route 6 Shelby, who died Saturday at Catawba Memorial Hospital, were conduct- ed Monday at 3 p.m. at Allen Memorial Baptist Church. Rev. Randy Clark officiated and interment was in the church ceme- tery. A retired employee of Service America Inc., he was the son of the late Otto Goodwin and was a mem- ber of Allen Memorial Baptist Church. Surviving are his mother, Katie Brown Goodwin of Charlotte; his wife, Margaret Brewer Goodwin; two daughters, Patti Goodwin of Kings Mountain and Nancy Petrea of Harrisburg; and two grandchil- dren. The family has requested memo- rials to Allen Memorial Baptist Church, Route 2 Box 967, Grover, 28073, or to Kings Mountain Lions Club, PO Box 1279, Kings Mountain, N.C. 28086. GRACE MITCHELL Grace L. Mitchell, 56, of 514 North Watterson Street, Kings Mountain, died July 17 at Kings Mountain Hospital. A Cleveland County native, she was the daughter of Richard A. Boyd of Washington and the late Inez Gardner. She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church where she served as organist and former secretary. The Board set public hearing for Aug. 29 at 730. In addition to her father, she is survived by one son, Woodrow "Woody" Mitchell of Pascagoula, Miss.; and one brother, Eugene Roberts of Kings Mountain. Services were conducted Friday at 4 p.m. at Mount Zion Baptist Church by the Rev. C.A. Feemster. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Mount Zion Baptist Church, 220 North Watterson Street, Kings Mountain, 28086. GALLIE LANIER Gallie Ramsey Lanier, 99, of 310 Parker Street, Kings Mountain, died July 19 at Kings Mountain Hospital. A Cherokee County, S.C., na- tive, she was the daughter of the late Ulysses and Rachel Martin Ramsey. She was married to the late Luther Lanier and was a re- tired textile employee. She is survived by two sons, Freelon Ramsey of Kings Mountain and Jack Lanier of Gastonia; three daughters, Ruth Hughes of Kings Mountain, Mary Hoyle of Bessemer City and Mamie Jenkins of Clinton, S.C.; one sister, Judy Lanier of Cherokee Falls, S.C.; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and five great- great-grandchildren. Services were conducted Friday at 2 p.m. at Kings Mountain Church of God by the Rev. James Allen and the Rev. Willie Lanier. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. DONALD BYERS SHELBY - Donald "Youngblood" Byers, 34, of 119 Chestnut Street, died July 16 at Charlotte Memorial Hospital. A Cleveland County native, he was the son of the late Tommie Lee and Lucinda Goolsby Byers. He was employed by Gary Turner Plumbing Co. and was a member of First Assembly of God. He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Huskey Byers; five sons, Toby Gwinn of Dallas, Tyrell Logan and Cedrick, Fredrick and Dameon Byers of Shelby; two daughters, Jytanna Byers and Sherika Logan of Shelby; two brothers, Arthur R. Byers and Tommy Lee Byers Jr. of Shelby; two sisters, Juanita B. Crocker of Kings Mountain and Mary B. Campbell of Shelby; and his grand- p.m. on zoning request from Kathleen M. Bridges, PO Box 722 . Mrs. Bridges plans to open a restaurant on her property fronting 125 feet on the east side of York Road south of the intersection of Mauney Avenue and York Road. The property is currently zoned Neighborhood Business. General Business zoning. In a formal resolution the board returned to meeting once a month.. The resolution stated the board would meet on last Tuesday nights and set the dates of Aug. 29, Sept. 26, Oct. 31, Nov. 28, Dec. 19, and Jan. 30,1990.The Board will initiate its new regular meet- ing schedule on Aug. 29. TONEY BELMONT - Michael Coleman "Mike" Toney, 42, of 27-A Acme Road, died July 19. A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of Marjorie Ramsey Gibson of Mount Holly and William J.C. Toney of Dallas. He was a textile employee. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Sharon Secrest Toney; two daughters, Barbara Toney and Betty Toney of Cramerton; a brother, Bruce Toney Sr. of Belmont; two sisters, Barbara McCombs of Belmont and Betty Black of Kings Mountain; his grandmother, Velma Toney of Rutherfordton; two step-sons, Terry Queen and Jamie Spargo of the home; four step-brothers, Tommy Crisp of Dallas, Wayne Crisp of Stanley, and Jamie Crisp and Rickey Crisp of Cramerton; and a step-sister, Vickie Garrett of Cramerton. Services were conducted Friday at 3 p.m. at Carothers Funeral Home in Belmont by the Rev. Edwin Broadway. Burial was in Gaston Memorial Park.
