ai KM GIRL IN SHOWSTOPPERS-Kings Mountain native Gray Wooten, pictured middle row second from the left, along with her group recently won first place in Showstopper National Talent Competition in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The group qualified for the national contest at Myrtle Beach, S. C. by taking first place at Showstopper regional competition in Hickory in April. They also won fifth place overall for the day's competition. They are students at Diane Griffin Dance Academy in Forest City. Officer Hired Grover Town Board hired Linda Norris of Kings Mountain as the new police officer Monday night. The board held a special session to approve the hiring of a police- woman. Grover has not had a police offi- cer for some months. Cleveland County deputies have been polic- ing the area. Lion Bill Stone presented contribu- tions of $295 to launch the annual White Cane drive for the blind, a local project of the civic club. Lions also made a $50 donation to the Quest program at Central School which offers instruction to sixth grade teachers in teaching students how to say no to drugs. Twenty-five teachers are participat- ing in the program Aug. 9-11. The Lions club is a state leader in the Quest program. Local Lions will visit the classroom during the pro- gram. Jessica Notes Fifth Birthday Jessica Elizabeth Ledford, daughter of Tom and Vickie Ledford, celebrated her fifth birth- day on June 23. A party was held on Saturday, June 15.
