DEAL Funeral services for Glenn Walter Deal, 70, of 17829 Jamestown Way, Lutz, Fla., who died Aug. 19 at Town and Country Hospital in Tampa, Fla., were con- ducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Carothers Funeral Home in Gastonia. Rev. Tom McLean officiated and interment was in Kings Mountain's Mountain Rest Cemetery. He was a native of Gastonia, son of the late John Deal and Betty Eppeley, a retired electronic ma- chinist, a supervisor at Watkins- Johnson, Rockville, Md., a World War II Air Force veteran and a member of Bradley Memorial United Methodist Church in Gastonia. Surviving are his wife, Edith Martin Deal; two daughters, Betty Ann Wallace of Tampa and Glenda Joyce Marshall of Laurel, Md., one brother, Paul Deal of Gastonia; two sisters, Estella Fogle of Shelby and Ossie Walton of Mount Rainier, Md. and five grandchildren. BOYD STACY BLACKSBURG, S.C. - Boyd Graham Stacy, 77, of Route 2, died Sunday, August 28 in Upstate Carolina Medical Center in Gaffney. A Cherokee County native, he was the son of the late Lionel and Fannie Mae Jenkins Stacy. He was a retired carpenter, U.S. Army vet- eran of World War II and member of Eastside Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Carrie Connor Stacy; one son, Douglas Stacy of Charlotte; two daughters, Fay Rushing of Monroe and Wanda Hambright of Union; two brothers, Leonard Stacy of Blacksburg and Robert Stacy of Deland Springs, Fla.; one half- brother, Amos Stacy of North Augusta; two sisters, Evie Childers of Blacksburg and Era Mae Watts of Gaffney; two half-sisters, Sue Moore of Gastonia and Mary Mae Brooks of Maxton; five grandchil- dren; and one great-grandchild. The funeral was conducted Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Eastside Baptist Church by the Rev. M.P. Hampton and the Rev. Glenn Felmet. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery in Kings Mountain. DAVID J. BARNETT Funeral services for David Jonathan Barnett, 67, of Shelby Road. Grover, who died at home on Thursday, were conducted Saturday: "at. 2’ p.m. ‘at Interdenominational Holiness Church by Rev. Odes Webb, Rev. Dean Webb and Rev. Caris Owens. Interment was in Grover Cemetery. A native of Colburn, Ala., he was the son of the late James and Laura Butler Barnett. He was a member of Interdenominational Holiness Church and a veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife, Georgia McGinnis Bamett; two sons, Larry Barnett of Richmond, Va. and Bobby Barnett of Huntsville, Ala., one brother, Willie Barnett of Wiley, Ga. and one sister, Julie Townsend of Tryon,Ga. Also sur- viving are five grandchildren. Harris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. LAWRENCE MOSS Funeral services for Lawrence Loyd Moss, 65, of 1407 E. Marion St., Shelby, formerly of Kings Mountain, who died Thursday at VA Hospital in Columbia, S. C., were ‘conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at Zoar Baptist Church. Clubs Raise *4 000 The Kings Mountain Kiwanis and Sharks Aquatics Clubs swam a total of 3,856 laps Saturday during "Splashdown '89." The clubs collected approxi- mately $4,000 in pledges. The money will be used to sponsor var- ious school projects and to pur- chase some bleachers for the Kings Mountain Indoor Pool. Thirty-seven swimmers were aided by many volunteers who counted laps, cheered swimmers and served refreshments. The youngest swimmers participating were Virginia Neisler, 4, and Drew Neisler, 6, who swam 14 laps. Special recognition went to Dr. Bob Baker, 73, and his wife, Mary Louise, 67, who were the oldest swimmers to complete their laps. Dr. Baker swam 100 laps. The club members will now be- ginning collecting donations and money for laps swum. Final totals and a list of participants will be an- . nounced later. A ite £ } | ga Rev. Dennis Hester officiated and interment was in Kings Mountain's Mountain Rest Cemetery. A native of Gaston County, he was retired from Cleveland County Health Department. He was son of the late Clarence and Minnie Hutchins Moss. He was a member of Cleveland Masonic Lodge 202 and Order of the Eastern Star. He was a veteran of World War II. Surviving are his brother, Adam Moss of Dallas; two sisters, Ida Mae Gainey of Tucson, Arizona and Blair Lankford of Cherryville; and his niece, Barbara Smith. MANUEL BRIDGES Funeral services for Manuel Lee Bridges, 77, of Route 2, Box 575, Bridges Road, Bessemer City, who died Aug. 23 at Kings Mountain Hospital, were conducted Friday at 3 p.m. at Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church. Rev. Mitchell Pruitt and Dr, ‘Charles Davenport officiated and interment was in the church ceme- tery. A native of Gaston County, he was a farmer and a retired textile employee. He was a member of Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church where he served on the deacon board. He was also a member of the Tryon Volunteer Fire Department for 11 years. Surviving are his wife, Etta Mae Bridges; two sons, Joe Lee Bridges of Bessemer City and Floyd Allen Bridges of Florence, Ala.; one daughter, Betty Mae Rayfield of Bessemer City; one sister, Ollie Southards of Kings Mountain; four grandchildren; and one great- grandchild. Street Paving Priorities Listed A list of 35-45 city streets in- spected for need of repaving has been presented to city council by Community Services Director Tom Howard. Howard said FY 90 funding will pay for projects totaling $94,000. Howard said priority was given to those streets where paving has deteriorated or failed due largely to settlement, poor drainage, poor compaction or age. Priority one are Sims Street (SR 74-Waco Road), Floyd Street (York Road-Marie Street) and Cansler Street (Gold-Hawthorne Road.) Priority two are Roxford Road (SR 74 Downey Street), Henry Street, (Katherine and Ellenwood Drive) and Dilling Street (Phenix and East King Street.) re re rason Breakfast Slated At El Bethel Church The monthly Saturday breakfast at EI Bethel Methodist Church will be served Saturday from 6 a.m. un- til 10:30 a.m. A country menu will be featured with eggs, grits, sausage, bacon, biscuits, gravy, juice and coffee. All proceeds will benefit church projects. DRIVER TRAINING Public school bus driver classes will be held September 6-7 at Malcolm Brown Auditorium at Shelby High School. The hours are from 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. ATTIC, YARD SALE Methodist Men of Galilee United Methodist Church will sponsor an attic and yard sale Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. at Galilee United Methodist Church.
