They sang together as a duet for a few years then their older son, James, joined them by playing the bass guitar. By this time, they had already recorded nine albums. When James joined the two, they changed the name to "The Singing Cookes." Later, son, Ron, started playing the keyboards and a third son, Don, begah playing the drums. The Singing Cookes have trav- elled in all 50 states and also to foreign countries, singing and blessing many people through their ministry in song. They have seen thousands of souls saved through the years. Their records have also been placed in the Library of Congress. The Cookes have now become two groups. The Singing Cookes and The Cooke Brothers, consist- ing of James, Ron and Don, along with James' daughter, Tami playing keyboards for the group. The Cookes acquired a brand new 1989 Prevost bus in April of this year. The new bus is equipped with all the comforts of home in- cluding an entertainment center, bathroom, kitchenette, lounge area and sleeping quarters for 13 peo- ple. According to Jeanette, she has noticed a "significant decrease in the use of her liniment" since the new seats in the bus are so com- fortable and since Hubert is their number one shade tree mechanic, he says, "It's a whiz to keep ser- vice." They are all enjoying the bus and would like to thank all their friends who have bought their tapes through the years that have put them in the new bus to travel for the Lord. Some of their more familiar songs include, "Nearer To Thee," "There Ain't No Grave," and "Send Your Best Angel For Mama." Along with their many cassettes, they have a video from their 25th Anniversary singing from Knoxville, Tennessee and The Cooke Brothers have a concept video entitled, “Welcome Home Son." Their newest cassette releases are, "He Has Risen," with the title cut written by Hubert, and The Cooke Brothers, "Straight Ahead." On September 21, The Singing Cookes will be at Independent Baptist Church in Dallas.
