A native of Cleveland County, he was a retired farmer and the son of the late William G. and Virginia Beam Ware. His was married to the late Pearl Lovelace Ware. He was a member and former deacon at Oak Grove Baptist Church and former member of the Bethware School Board and Farmers Home Administration. He is survived by five sons, Jack Ware of Shelby and Buford Ware, Walter Ware, Bob Ware and Mike Ware, all of Kings Mountain; three daughters, Mrs. Virginia Stone, Mrs. Polly Phifer and Mrs. Annette Webster, all of Kings Mountain; 20 grandchildren; and 25 great-grand- children. Services were conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Ron Caulder, the Rev. James Holder and the Rev. Bruce Hancock. Burial was in the church cemetery. B.A NET LEE CButorgs | Janet Lee Childers, 27, of 413 Maner Road, Kings Mountain, died October 2, 1989 at Duke Hospital in Durham. A native of Kings Mountain, she was the daughter of Bill Childers and Jeanette Cook Childers of Kings Mountain. She was em- ployed in the personnel department of the North Carolina Department of Natural Resources in Raleigh. She was a 1980 graduate of Kings Mountain High School and re- ceived her B.A. degree from UNC- Chapel Hill in 1984. She was a member of First Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her paternal grand- mother, Helen Childers of Kings Mountain; her maternal grand- mother, Vernease Cook of Shelby; and one sister, Cindy Mixter of Knightdale. Services will be conducted Thursday at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church by the Rev. John W. Sloan, Dr. Joel Jenkins and the Rev. Wray Barrett. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 605 West King Street, Kings Mountain, N.C. 28086. HERMAN WILLIS SHELBY - Herman Dennis Willis, 69, of Route 1, died September 26, 1989 at Cleveland Memorial Hospital. He was the son of the late Charlie and Laura Gantt Willis and was a retired construction worker and carpenter. He was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church, where he served as Sunday School teacher and a former Deacon. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He is survived by his wife, Gretchen Beam Willis; two sons, Dennis Willis of Cherryville and Steve Willis of Lawndale; four brothers, Ray Willis of Kings Mountain, Stough Willis of Fallston and Colon Willis and Earl Willis of Mooresville; a sister, Clara Wilson of Cherryville; and four grandchildren. Services were conducted Thursday at 4 p.m. at New Prospect Baptist Church by the Rev. Arthur Collum and the Rev. J.C. Goare. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Frank Gordon officiated at the rites. A native of Whig County, Tennessee, Mrs. Mauney was wid- ow of James Ernest (Doc) Mauney. She was a homemaker and member of Grace United Methodist Church. She was a member of Unit 155, American Legion Auxiliary. She was daughter of the late ky [1314 KINGS MOUNTAIN. NC William and Roena Teague. Surviving are two brothers, Charles Teague of Edgewater, Fla. - and James Teague of Biloxi, Mississippi; three sisters, Virginia Lefils of Oak Hill, Fla., Iona Smith of New Smyrna Beach, Fla. and Mary Solana of Chesapeake, Va. ANNIE BUMGARDNER Funeral services for Annie Jane Jenkins Bumgardner, 70, of 214 East Ohio Avenue, Bessemer City, who died Oct. 2 at Kings Mountain Hospital, will be conducted Thursday at 3 p.m. at Sisk-Butler Funeral Chapel in Bessemer City. Rev. Ray England will officiate and interment will be in Bessemer City Memorial Cemetery. A native of Gaston County, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Ethel Capps Jenkins and a homemaker. She was a member of Bessemer City's First Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Linard (Skin) Bumgardner; a son, Robie Bumgardner of Dallas; daughter, Sandra Reynolds of Kigns Mountain; brothers, Fred Jenkins Jr. and Oday Jenkins, both of Bessemer City; and four grand- chidlren. The family will be at the home of Sandra Reynolds, 805 Woodside Drive, in Kings Mountain. ROOSEVELT WILLIAMS Roosevelt Williams, 61, of Route 4, died Monday at home. Arrangements will be announced by J. W. Gill and Sons Funeral Home. JEAN McDEVITT Funeral services for Doris Jean McDevitt, 53, of 213 Sipes St., Forest City, wife of former Kings Mountain police chief Tom McDevitt, were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Forest City of which she was a member. Dr. Thomas Jenkins and Dr. Bobby Gantt officiated. Mrs. McDevitt died Monday in Memorial Mission Hospital in Asheville. She was a native of Clay County, daughter of Kenneth and Myrtle Mathison Bernard of Hayesville. She was a homemaker and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Auxiliary. Surviving, in addition to her husband and parents, are three sons, John McDevitt of Morganton, Donald McDevitt of Taylorsville and Robert McDevitt of Spartanburg, S.C.; a daughter, Loujeana Parker of Rutherfordton; two sisters, Ruth Cloer of Hiawassee, Ga. and Blonde Martin of Hayesville and four grandchil- dren. Outwardly, there has been little political activity. All candidates have placed signs in strategic areas in the city and have distributed po- litical cards and run newspaper ad- vertisements. Six of the 10 candi- dates, who responded to a forum sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce last Monday evening at Barnes Auditorium, expressed sim- ilar views on questions posed by a small audience.
